Women of the Bible - Eve

If we're gonna talk about the "Women of the Bible".....then, we need to start at the beginning, don't you agree?!?

So....let's talk a little about Eve!!

Eve was the very first woman....EVER!!!

 Genesis 2:21
“And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from the man HE MADE INTO A WOMAN, and He brought her to the man.”

After God brought Eve to Adam to be his helper, Adam made a very powerful statement that....in my mind....paints a beautiful picture of marriage!!!

 Genesis 2:23
“At last!” the man exclaimed.
“This one is bone from my bone,
      and flesh from my flesh!
   She will be called ‘woman,’
because she was taken from ‘man.’”

Adam and Eve had it made....living in the Garden of Eden....plenty to eat....beautiful scenery....living peacefully amongst all the animals....
....but....
....that just wasn't enough for them.
And, they were no different than we are today.
The thing that caused them to disobey the Lord....was selfishness!!!
All God asked of them was to not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
But....the serpent (Satan)....convinced Eve that, even though God said if they ate of the tree, they would die.....well, the old devil told Eve that they wouldn't die....that if they ate of the tree....their eyes would be opened, and they would be like God....knowing good and evil!!!
That was enough for Eve....she ate the fruit....and convinced Adam to eat, also.
Immediately....they realized they were naked....and sewed fig leaves together to cover their nakedness.
When questioned by God as to whether they had eaten of the tree that He had forbidden them to eat....Adam blamed his wife (really blaming God)....
Genesis 3:12
The man replied, “It was the woman you gave me who gave me the fruit, and I ate it.”
And, Eve....well, she blamed the serpent....
Genesis 3:13
Then the Lord God asked the woman,
“What have you done?”
“The serpent deceived me,” she replied.
“That’s why I ate it.”

Adam and Eve didn't actually die a physical death....but a spiritual death....because the close relationship they had shared with the Lord....and His creation....had died!!

So....thanks to the sin of Eve.....her punishment....was to have to endure the pain of childbirth....

Genesis 3:16
Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

 Eve's name means.....life-giving.
And....we know....that Eve gave birth to three known sons....Cain, Abel and Seth.....as well as many unnamed sons and daughters!!!

My conclusions.....
first of all....we can't do wrong and get by....or....be sure your sins will find you out.....and......
.....secondly.....just like in the day of Adam and Eve.....so often we won't/don't take the blame for our own sins/faults/shortcomings....but try to place the blame on others!!!!

See y'all back here next Tuesday....for our next installment of....
"Women of the Bible"!!!

In His Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!

    1. Hi Deb, Thanks so much for sharing a re-cap of this story in Genesis. You are right, it's easy to pass the buck. Why are we so afraid to take responsibilities for our actions? At least we know we are not alone in our weaknesses. I'm so glad the Lord showed Adam and Eve as they really were. It keeps me from feeling 'weird'. No temptation is new I guess. :o)

    2. I tell my hubby all the time that he's just like Adam...always blaming someone else. LOL A minister that we had while the girls were growing up and his wife are dear, dear friends of ours. The wife has just written a bible study on Genesis that we are starting this month. I'm so excited!

    3. Yes, it has always been human nature to blame someone else for our sins and mistakes. Thank you for sharing all the encouraging posts on your blog. By the way, I love the look of your blog.
      Have a wonderful New Year.
