Love of Music

Music....how many of you like music...songs....have a favorite "artist"?????
I have always loved music...I remember when I was in grammar school (here I go again..ha! ha!)....we had music class where we go into the cafeteria and Mrs. Thomas would come and play the piano and we would sing songs out of this certain song book...I wish I still had mine!! The only song I can remember singing was...and I didn't like it at all...and don't ask me why they wanted grammar school kids to learn this song...but, it was Andy Williams' "Moon River"....remember that song???...I still don't like it to this day. But...I LOVE MUSIC!!! You'll notice one of my links on the right hand side of my blog is Love 89. I absolutely love that radio station. And, for you locals, if you didn't already know it...they now have a sister station...Life 88.3. That was the station that played nothing but Christmas music beginning around the first of November...but it won't be doing that anymore...it's strictly contemporary Christian now. I rarely listen to secular music anymore...well, except on Sunday mornings while getting ready for church...I listen to the praise and worship music on B97.5!! I leave my radio in the car on either Love 89, or Life 88, and lots of times listen to Love 89 while I'm walking in the mornings. It just seems to help me to listen to this type of music...helps me to keep my mind off of "worldly things"!!!
My prayer partner had a situation this week and listening to Love 89 reminded her that not only the word of God was Holy Spirit inspired...but also the old hymns...and even lots of the music today...is Holy Spirit inspired. Even our pastor told Pappy that he had to change his mind about a lot of today's music....he said that there was no way that "I Can Only Imagine" wasn't Holy Spirit inspired (my words, not his)!!!
Okay..that being said...I have had "I Can Only Imagine" as my ring tone on my phone for about 2 years now. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that song. When I turned 50, and my precious daughter gave me a surprise 50th birthday celebration....a sweet, sweet man that Pappy worked with came and sang that song just for me!!! The wonderful thing about that song...and gotta give MercyMe a plug here, too...is that it even crossed over to the secular music stations....YEAH!!!
So...here's some wonderful scripture verses about singing...having a song in your heart!!!

The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. Psalm 28:7
Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord. Ephesians 5:19

So..you might be asking...if she loves music so much, can she sing??? I do okay...but, I can't read a single musical note...not one!!! (Sorry, Mrs. Thomas)Somebody at church was talking about singing in the choir, and I told them I could sing okay, but couldn't read music...they said "well, maybe you just need to join the hand bell choir"!!! ha! ha! ha!
So...guess what?!?!?!...I signed up!!!

  1. I agree the son "Can you Imagine" is just a wonderul song. I really enjoy Nicole C. Mullins music I seen her in concert in 2005 with my sis Amy and Alan she is a black singer who is from Ohio and her maiden name is the same as mine "Coleman." Her music is very inspiring. I needed that trip more than ever when I went that is when we had all the two other foster boys it was a hard decision for me to leave all of them with Adam but I did for the week-end.
You sure are a early riser Deb. I went to a local yard sale this morning and bought a swimming pool. My mom and dad, sis have been wanting a bigger pool one to put up on mom and dad land. Well, we got one 18ftX4ft brand new $465 pool I paid $210 he wanted $250. Well, we have got our work cut out for us today. The man said there dog chews on everything so they decided not to put one up, but the kids wanted to keep the dog and not the pool. Go figure my kids get the dogs at our house and the pool at mamaw and papaw no dogs there. We will certainly enjoy it and the boys are excited to get it. I told them they got there
b-day gift early again this year. Jonathan is 7/28 and Kenny is 8/17 Robbie is 10/27 so Robbie's is very early. I am sure they will enjoy it this summer and so will I.

  2. Marenda...I have been getting up earlier the past few weeks, for some reason. Pappy had to be at work at 5 this morning, so I got up about 4:30...was out walking by about 6:20, and walked for an hour!! I have heard of Nicole C. Mullins. Have you heard any of Mandisa's music? I like her, too!! Congrats on your deal on the pool...the boys are going to have a ball..and you and Adam, too...and baby Grace!!
    Love 'ya!!!
