Unction

1 John 2:19-20 (KJV)
They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us. But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
Here's the "New Living Translation" for a little better understanding:
I John 2:19-20 (NLT)
These people left our churches, but they never really belonged with us; otherwise they would have stayed with us. When they left, it proved that they did not belong with us. But you are not like that, for the Holy One has given you his Spirit, and all of you know the truth.

I knew a preacher....he's gone to heaven now....but he used the word "unction" in his messages...and as a young girl, I had no clue what that word meant. I'm not sure, but I've had this word on my mind again lately, so I decided to just look up the meaning.....do you realize that "unction" is actually an "anointing", or something used to "anoint"? So the "unction"....or the "anointing" that is being spoken about in I John, verse 20...is actually the Holy Spirit!!!
Once we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior.....once we acknowledge our sins and that we believe that He died on the cross for those sins...then, the Holy Spirit comes and dwells within us....and it's the Holy Spirit that we feel when we do something wrong, or say something wrong....that "uh-oh" feeling that we get.
It's also the Holy Spirit that we feel....that just seems to fill us to the brim....when we hear a song that touches our hearts, or hear His word being taught....or whatever the situation may be that causes the Holy Spirit to be stirred up within us!!! Do you all understand what I'm saying? Haven't you been in a service, or even in your car listening to your radio, and you just get so filled up that you think you're going to explode??? Maybe you're in a church service and the message touches you....speaks to you....so strongly that you wonder if everybody around you can feel what it's doing to you....inside of you!!!
Do you ever wish that what you're feeling would just spill out and onto others who seemingly don't feel it????
So....our "unction" with our Heavenly Father....is His Holy Spirit. He sends His Holy Spirit to prompt us....to guide us.....to help us better understand His word....to make wise decisions....to make us feel ALIVE....just like our precious Jesus is!!! We need to keep our faith.....the spiritual side of us ALIVE!!!
Never let it become stagnant. This reminds me of the bucket that we keep beside the house to water plants with, or sometimes to stick a plant into. Have you all ever done that??? If you leave it there too long, and there's no movement, no stirring of the water, then it stagnates...and what happens then?
It gets rotten...and it stinks.
The very same thing happens to us if we don't keep that Holy Spirit stirred up within us, thru song, thru praise, thru prayer, thru Bible reading, thru worship services.....we become stagnant....and in a way, we stink!!!
We may no longer have the testimony that we once had because we haven't stayed stirred up!!!
"Unction"....
it's sort of an odd word....
but it's actually just our connection to our precious Lord!!
In His Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!

  1. Thanks for the new word. When I saw the title, I thought you misspelled a word. Then when I saw it is the Scripture, I did a huh!, what does that mean, I hope she tells me, and you did. I don't want to become stagnant or stink in my spiritual life, and I pray that it doesn't happen. But I can relate when I hear something that is speaking to me and I'm filled up and want to tell all. Never to old to learn new things, including words!
