Holy Spirit Chills

How many times have you been in a situation where you're talking about something spiritual....something God has done for you....something you've experienced that you know was a definite God-thing....or....an "it's not odd, it's God" moment....and you just had chills run all up and down your arms, or even your entire body?
I've decided to call those "Holy Spirit Chills"!
I did a little research on what causes us to have those "chills" when it actually has nothing to do with being cold....quite the opposite in my opinion....I think we're quite "warm" when that happens. One place I found them actually called "glory chills", which I like that term, too. But....I'm gonna stick with my new term....
"Holy Spirit Chills"!!!
Don't you just love how they make you feel?
Lots of times I can just be typing something and feel the Holy Spirit come over me and have those chills run all up and down my arms and even my back and legs, sometimes even to the point where my arms will actually get weak!
You'll get them in church services....or hearing songs that touch your heart....driving in your car praying to the Lord....singing along with the radio.....talking with a fellow Christian about something that touches both of you.
I don't know how to explain how they happen....or why....but I'm sure glad that I get 'em....aren't you?I'm glad that God sends His Holy Spirit to me....and over me....to comfort me...to lead and guide me...but, also to fill me with joy and to let me know without a shadow of a doubt...that He's right there with me...even giving me
"Holy Spirit Chills"!!!!
John 3:8 (NLT)
The wind blows wherever it wants.

Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.”
In His Most Precious Love....
and with mine!!!

  1. Believe me God revealed his presence so many times while we were in MN. I have and aunt on my mother side she said she did not only pray for Kenny's surgery. She made sure she pray for all the little details she could possibly think of while we were there.
It was a God things and not just odd. For example: one day we went to the grocery store and a employee there said here a $1.00 off coupon for that item. I was not even aware of the coupon laying there on the counter. This may be small to some, but to me it was big since I knew that was something God let happen. Another example the first hotel we stay in there was a church that had church services on site. We did not have to find one God provided one right where we were. Just another thing they had planned a potluck that Sunday, so we even had lunch provided that day. This is just a couple examples I could list some more.

  4. I get these chills too. Started awhile after baptism. During worship service my hands would feel weird sometimes. Like a vibration or something. At first i wondered if i had a medical problem. It seemed to only happen during worship though. Then a couple of times during conversation that seemed to go deep and touch me. Then at the beginning of a healing retreat it went down my arms. Near the end of the retreat i felt it through my body like a cool chill. It increases as i devote myself to God. It may be a way the holy spirit in me shows it is there and pleased. I highly recommend giving yourself to God for two weeks.

    1. I prayed on several occasions when i really needed god and i asked two questions. Is there a heaven and was there a Jesus? Both times i was immediately blessed with these chills with what you described as an overwhelming and sense of joy and peace undoubtedly from the heavens.

    3. This happens to me when God is communicating with me during prayer. I ask a question and if it's in alignment with what he wants, he gives me chills.

  9. The Hope of the Resurrection

    1 Thessalonians 4

    New Living Translation (NLT)
    Live to Please God

4 Finally, dear brothers and sisters,[a] we urge you in the name of the Lord Jesus to live in a way that pleases God, as we have taught you. You live this way already, and we encourage you to do so even more. 2 For you remember what we taught you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.

13 And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died[f] so you will not grieve like people who have no hope. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died.

15 We tell you this directly from the Lord: We who are still living when the Lord returns will not meet him ahead of those who have died.[g] 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the Christians who have died[h] will rise from their graves. 17 Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever. 18 So encourage each other with these words.

If you are in control of this domain, please pass this word to her email, as she NEEDS this so bad! Direct Revelation...I was awoken in a dream for I wanted to help her earlier in the night but could only condemn her so I stopped! Praise Jesus!!

  12. This was a really helpful article - thank you. I have been a christian all my life, but a couple of years ago, I had a really powerful spiritual reawakening, all praise be to God (lest I should boast). I come from quite a conservative theological background, but when I started praying then and reading the bible, one of two several things started happening - either I would be overwhelmed by tears of joy or I would get these chills. The tears were overwhelming, joyful and completely unctrollable (only ever in private. If it started to happen in church, I would fight it a bit as I think any of those manifiestations of the spirit in public worship should be edifying for the whole body). The chills have come and gone for two years, always while I am praying (especially the 15 or so Psalms that I have memorised and pray through), or just reflecting on God's endless love and faithfulness (it is happening now, all praise be to God). The best thing is that is only happens when I am seeking to draw near to God, not the experience itself. The first thing I need to always remember and boast in, is Jesus life, Death and Resurrection. These chills are just a bonus, but it is reassuring reading this blog that it wasn't just a manifestation of my mind or an emotional thing.

Thank you and God Bless You.

  13. so I'm grateful for have came to this post. I get this more frequently these days.. I'm a convert. and I didn't get baptised. I was not sure if I have the Holy Spirit. But I prayed to God to give me the Holy Spirit. I believed in God's word and will continue to hold on to it. I believe everyone of us has a spirit.when I get those chills. I used to think that it's when my spirit resonates so much with the scripture or when I remember to remember God's love for me (or so the entire human race). And conclusion is that I'm grateful that it has got a new name now "Holy Spirit Chills". so long.

  14. Mark 16:1- The more Bible you get in you the more light (faith) you will have. Ephesians 2:8 free grace (God's gift to us) not by our works. 3:12- faith in God we have free access without fear and with freedom to come to God in prayer because of what Jesus did on the cross. Jesus being a man cleansed and clean we have the same as Jesus we are offered a seat by Jesus as Jesus is welcome on the right hand of God!!
Romans 4:16- inheriting the promise is the outcome of faith. And depends entirely on faith. That it may be given as an act of grace. Faith isn't owed to us but was given to us by an act of faith. Receive Jesus by faith and we are in God's family. We don't have to do anything but have faith to join Gods family. Jesus took the trouble all we have to do is believe in Jesus and live as he commands.
Romans 5:2- through Jesus we have access, by faith into this grace. You can't enjoy the presence of God if you are looking at you never being good enough, or having to work to earn Gods attention...we just need faith!! Satan tries to get us under the law.
Ephesians 6:10- be strong in the Lord. Draw your strength from God. Not other people put on Gods full armor!! V12 we wrestling with Satan and his demons. V13- put on Gods complete armor. To face the enemy full hearted. (Ephesians 10:4,5). Cast away all thoughts and images that exalt ( lift) themselves before God.
In Christ we have more power than Satan. We have something Satan wants, and that's why it's easy for Satan to get us. Satan will attach us John 10:10 Satan will steal your faith, kill you with sickness, and destroy you. Proverbs 4:20- 24. attend to Gods words and submit to his sayings (turn your life to God).
The word of God is the sword we are to use against the devil. Faith works by love. God is love!!!!! Jesus walked by faith Romans 10:10- for with the heart a person believes. We are to believe with our heart not our head senses.
Matthew 21:21- if you have faith and do not doubt you will receive what you ask for in faith. Mark 11:23- speak don't doubt. Whatever you ask for in prayer you will receive it. Guard your heart. Reading the Bible so when you pray your hearts filled up with Bible that's what God is looking at.
Satan is into details (worry). We don't have to know how anything is to come we just need to believe with our heart.

  15. I get the chills when God is speaking to and thru me! Whenever I sing, when my spirit is praising God!
When someone speaks.....and needs an answer from God, I get those chills! Then He gives me the words to speak. During and after I give His message.......I get those chills. My hair on my body stands up! You can see the bumps from the chills!

What's amazing is when it's 99+ degrees outside and all of a sudden, His Spirit comes over you and you get chilled all of a sudden!

  18. I have recently gone through a break up after nearly 2 years with the same girl and I have turned to God to help me through it I have these chills all the time when praying about it. One of the reasons for this break up was my girlfriend not seeing my relationship with the lord as serious as she was and it is true. I am now trying to get back on track with my faith through this hard time but I don't know if these flushes are just my head or it's Gods presence.

  20. As I sit here with excitement to know I'm not crazy and others have experienced this too, I got those. What I call, Holy Ghost chills! Mine began a year ago. I was broken, addicted to heavy drugs, homeless, sleeping in my car when a preacher gave me his personal Bible at KFC after buying me something to eat. I read the book of Job that night and the next morning was free! I set out to find resources for food, clothing, and shelter. I ended up at the Salvation Army. My journey since then has been an amazing one. During my time at the Salvation Army we had to leave the building from 8:30 in the morning until 4:30 in the afternoon. God had me on a journey I will never forget, I would stop and pray with strangers which was my first experience with the Holy Ghost chills. Most of these people were homeless just like myself that were in need of prayer. It has been an amazing journey. I have been free since May 25th of 2016. I choose to say I have been redeemed. Mind body and soul and I choose to live everyday putting God first. I call this a gift these holy ghost chills that I thought no one understood but me. Today I'm in school to get my bachelor's in psychology with a focus on addiction to help others fighting the battle in a faith-based setting. Three months prior to being delivered I stole a prayer box from Family Dollar. Being in the drug life that was not uncommon. I knew I was miserable I felt unworthy and didn't want to live. I couldn't pray but I did start writing down in this little prayer box for God to give me the patience he gave job. I also prayed that he would give me the strength to know my values and to put my Children First. My boyfriend of 6 years was not ready to stop using and God gave me the strength to look at him that morning I quit and tell him that I love him but he has to go to but I will pray for him. I prayed and truly believe that God would change his heart and I pray that God would do whatever needed to be done to help him. Two months later he ended up in jail. I had only talked to him a couple of times before that but assured him that I was praying for him. I simply prayed truly believed and received that answered prayer. I went to visit him in jail on on July 25th of 2016 he gave himself to the Lord he surrendered. He likes to call it his Redemption day. Today he is still in prison and is set to be released early 2018. He is happier now than I've ever seen him. God has him sharing his word with other prisoners and even has him praying with other prisoners. We never even talked about God in our relationship. Today that is all we talk about what God has done in our lives. We read our devotions every morning to each other and plan to be baptized together when he gets out before we get married. Today I have a wonderful relationship with my children that I did not have before. I'm able to be a mother and a grandmother just as I had asked 4. God is giving me the patience of Job. I have made amends with my loved ones and rebuilt relationships that were broken. Everyday I share the word of God. I hope to be an influence for someone that is going through what I have been through. It is only by God's grace that I'm here to tell the story period I will forever praise His name!

  25. I'm trying to understand the 'chills' I got tonight at our old church. They were NOT good ones!! I felt scared! & when I explained it to the pastor, I asked if it was a good thing or a bad thing. She replied shaking her head & just said "bad". She & fellow members of our divided/broken church (which I would have never in a million years thought could ever happen)prayed over me. I felt no relief. It was awful!! It was these intense waves of cold chills that felt like a shawl being pulled over my shoulder over my back & then over off my other shoulder. It only went 1/2 way down my back. I'm pretty tough...but this brought tears to my eyes that I could not control! & it didn't feel good it didn't feel right,,just wrong!! Any idea about this?

    1. Go to THE Source--ask HIM what your body was trying to tell you. Perhaps HE sent you the chills to warn you of the impending church split and wanted you to leave that church. Don't assume pastor knows--could be false teacher. Maybe you were the only one true Christian in that entire church and God wanted to get your attention and warn u that He was not pleased with you being there

  26. I am an Orthodox Christian Alter Server. I must say during the Epiclesis I many times Feel those Chills, today as a matter of fact. Wondering if it is purely emotional or the gift of the Holy Spirit? I have felt Chills at home during Prayer as well. And I believe in the Holy Spirit the Lord and Giver of life who proceeds from the Father who with the son is worshipped and Glorified.

  27. I’m glad I found this article because I was curious what this constant chills I get even when I’m not cold. It started when I got baptized with Holy Spirit & Fire a year and a half ago and it hasn’t stop. Sometimes it’s so strong like when I’m praying or worshipping.. sometimes when I don’t feel it for a few minutes or so, I get kind of nervous but then as soon as I finish that thought in my head, suddenly I get the chills as if Holy Spirit saying “I’m right here.” I get it a lot. When I’m thinking of Jesus or anything spiritual it’s strong all over my entire body, mostly when praying. And I also get the chills when I’m just doing house works or whatever. God is good!

...but has anyone felt like cold drops of water on you? There were times when I seriously thought my back and shirt got soaked with water but it was absolutely dry!

  28. I'm so glad I found this article as well. I get this feeling when I'm talking about God and when I received revelation. I also get it when I am interceding for someone. I take it as a confirmation, that I'm on the right track. Sometimes in prayer the Holy Spirit, pretty much takes over and it happens then as well. It is not the normal, chill one gets when they hear a song they like. It's a supernatural chill that is inwardly, because if you let someone touch your hands, sometimes they're not even cold. It's an amazing experience. I think people sometimes dismiss it because they know only of the chill regular people get. I think people don't like to share the experience, because people claims the Holy Spirit feels like warmth or Fire. When in fact, the Holy Spirit feels different for everyone.

I started experiencing these electric chills when im asking questions or when I see or hear something so profoundly imminent for me or the right thing to do. Im 36 Ive felt the chills before but never like this, never so consistant with the word of god never so intense and always so revealingly comforting. Ive just asked Christ into my heart this past year and such battles have come my way, but my comforter is with me.

  32. I’m feeling the end times are near with all our nations are going through. The experimental vaccine, Bill Gates 060696 patent. The last few weeks I’ve been been waking up around 3-4 am and at times I feel still asleep but I’m in such a deep prayer for family, friends, and nations. Then other times just waking up saying Lord why, why am I up. I then just googled spiritual hours and there are scriptures to read during each hour to fight the demonic realm or to encourage and remind us of Jesus’s protection. Then last night I put on a “sleep with Gods word app” that helped me sleep as I feel the spiritual warfare.

And for good reason, I feel the Lord is having me speak truth to Christians that can’t hear. Even when I don’t feel they heard me. When I get done I’m so cold and just shaking but not tired. Almost like an adrenaline rush, like I just got out of battle. Of course I googled spiritual chills because Satan puts in our minds is this really God and the Holy Spirit or is this a warning of something else. But listening to others and trying to win souls by speaking truth about Jesus of course it would be the Holy Spirit. Maybe I just need to type this out to see my own truth:)

Anyways hope this helps someone too.

  34. I was an atheist because I couldnt understand the concept of a deity. My life was full of destruction and addiction without God. He came to me one day when I was trying to detox and get clean on my own, that day changed my life forever. Since that day, he blessed me with the "holy spirit chills". I call it "The Dope of Christ." In my addiction, I used solely for the rush, the first ten seconds of intravenous use. God gives me a similar high all day every day constantly, and I pay for it with faith and not with money. Praise God for healing me from my addiction and giving me a new one..

  41. I decided to do a google search about Holy Spirit Chills and clicked on this sight! I experienced really strong Holy Spirit Chills when I was thinking about a friend and neighbour of mine that I had led to Christ out of Buddism. It's been about a year since she has given her life to Christ and lately we have been getting together to do our errands in town. Today, I was thinking about how we share so many simular interests, think alot alike and how our journeys through out our lives has caused our paths to cross in that we ended up living in the same mobile home park! I wondered then, maybe this is the reason we ended up living in this town just so that she could be lead to Christ! And just when I had had that thought, I began to experience really strong Holy Spirit chills that caused me to shake all over, as the chills went throughout my entire body from head to toe, like it was the truth and the Holy Spirit was giving me confirmation! We have decided to spend Chistmas Eve together! Thank you Lord for a wonderful new and growing friendship!!! :)

Kind words are like honey—
sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.
