Weekly Recap #1 - Genesis 1 - 21

~~~Edited~~~
And...I completely forgot about NOAH!!!
How could anybody forget about NOAH?!?!?
Yes...the story of Noah and the ark and all the animals.....and The Great Flood.....was in last week's study, too!!!
WOW....can you believe we've already been reading our Bible's for a week....on this journey to "read the Bible thru in 2010"?
I've tried doing this in the past....but followed a guideline where you read some in the Old Testament and some in the New.  I think that only served to confuse me.  I'm so very much enjoying starting at the beginning.....all fresh and new....and looking forward to what each book...chapter...and verse....has to bring....and especially how I can take what I read and apply it to my own life!!!
 Here are a few things that have stood out to me....or I've learned in my study guide....thus far:
~~~Genesis covers more time than any other book in the Bible.  It starts with "in the  beginning"....and ends with "in a coffin in Egypt".

~~~Genesis was probably written by Moses
~~~When God named each thing that He created, it was showing a sign of Lordship.   God allowed Adam to name each animal...and plant....which showed Adam's lordship.....dominion.....over them.

~~~The Garden of Eden (which means paradise) is in modern day Iraq.
~~~When God made Eve....she was created as a help meet for Adam. The word "meet" in Hebrew means "opposite", "according to the opposite of him".  Eve was "equal to and adequate for" Adam.  This reminds me of my own marriage....and how Pappy and I complete each other....where one of us might have a weakness....the other one is stronger in that area....and vice versa!

~~~Did you realize....that when Satan tempted Eve....he concentrated on the one negative....the tree that God had forbidden them to eat from....not all the wonderful fruits and veggies that they were free to eat!!!  Isn't that just like a lot of us....me....like when we're trying to cut back and eat healthier....we don't think about all the good things we can have....just on what we feel deprived of!!!
~~~I thought of myself in Genesis 3:6, too....when it states that the woman saw that the tree was good for food....I see way too many things that are "good for food"....but not "good for me"!!!!

~~~After Adam and Eve had sinned....they tried to cover up their nakedness....which meant they were trying to hide their sin.   Their intimate fellowship had been broken because of their disobedience.  That very same things happens to us today....when we sin....or if we allow ourselves to get "backslidden"....then, our intimate relationship is broken with God....and it takes us asking for forgiveness for it to be restored!
~~~The first murder occurs in the Bible when Cain kills his brother, Abel.

~~~We read the story of Abraham and Sarah....well Abram and Sarai to begin with, before God changes their names.....and how......Ms. Sarah took matters into her own hands to give Abraham a son by giving her handmaid, Hagar, to Abraham and Ishmael was born (here's where I believe that Ms. Sarah had to be menopausal and that was affecting her thinking...ha! ha!) And...isn't that just like us so much of the time....we try to do things our own way and wind up causing a big old mess!!!
~~~Homosexuality is brought out in the accounts of Sodom and Gomorrah and how God destroyed them because of the evil.

~~~Lot's wife was turned into a pillar of salt because of her disobedience when she looked back at everything she was leaving behind....instead of forward, like she was told to do.   As I read this, I thought of myself, and how I often look back and concentrate on things that I've done wrong in the past....instead of the fact that God has forgiven me....and looking forward as to how I can serve Him better!!!  I truly believe the verse of scripture that states that if we don't forgive others, that God won't forgive us....means....we must forgive ourselves, too....we are part of the "others"!
~~~An account of incest was described when Lot's daughters again took matters into their own hands to create descendants for Lot.

~~~Isaac is born to Abraham when he was 100 years old....and Sarah was 90....WHEW!!!
That's a lot of ground covered in just 21 chapters.
I'm anxious to see what lies ahead!!
If you're reading along with us.....then, let me know!!!
And...if there's anything you'd like to share....leave me a comment about that, too!!!
Till next week.....
In His Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!
  1. I'm a wee bit behind but I am going to catch up this weekend. So far it is 2 chapters. Anyways I posted a recap too. It's neat how we see different things out of our reading but that's God for ya. He shows us what He wants us to learn individually. Love ya, it is amazing. Good blog!!
