Turkey Chili

Do you like chili....I can't handle it if it's too spicy...you'll understand what I mean if you experience acid reflux.  Oh...sorry...I apologize...that's probably a bit too much information!!!

Any-who....

Pappy and I both LOVE chili...but we differ on what ingredients should go in it....so...here's the "recipe" that I've been using for YEARS to make something we both like.  Well....I'm not sure you can call it a recipe....because it's never precise, just usually what I have on hand!!!

Turkey Chili

1.5 lb of ground turkey, browned and drained
(or more, if you're gonna make a big pot like I did for our Christ-mas get-together...hey, don't frown...all families celebrate in their own way!!!)
1 package of "mild" chili seasoning mix
(I use Wally World brand)
2 cans of tomato sauce (big cans)
2 cans of pinto beans
2 cans of Northern beans (white)

I'm tellin' ya' I'm not a precise cook...but....here's what I do:

Brown meat and drain it and return to pot....I brown mine in the same pot I'm gonna put the rest of the ingredients in.  Did I tell you that I don't like to wash dishes...and I don't own a dishwasher?!?!?
Add the tomato sauce.  Rinse the sauce left in the cans out with about half a can of water, so it's not too tomatoey (is that a word?).  Then....drain the cans of beans and add them next.  I've learned...that Luck's beans aren't good for chili...because they're too "soupy".  The best ones are again...WallyWorld.
Then....add your package of chili seasoning....and I also add in some chili powder.  I have no  clue how much....probably a couple of tablespoons...or three!!!   I add some salt and pepper to taste.    Let it all simmer....and it's soooo good!!!  Plus…it’s good for you because the turkey doesn’t have much fat at all, especially since you drain it…and…the beans and maters are good for ‘ya!!!

Now...if I were making this just for myself....I would probably also add some onions....and some green peppers....but....I rarely ever cook just for me....and since Pappy doesn't like either....I've never included them!!!

Sorry...I don't have a pic...and also sorry it took me half a page just to explain how to make something that all of you already know how to make!!!

Bloggers will come up with anything for a post, huh?!?!?

Blessings to you,

  1. I just got back from grocery shopping and guess what I picked up - just because it was a good buy?!
Frozen ground turkey. 5/$5.00! I think I was "supposed" to make chili. We love chili. I make a couple of kinds but I'm sure I'll love this. May even put in some black beans.

    Thanks for sharing your recipe!
