Walk a mile in my shoes

Have you ever heard somebody say something to the effect....

...."well, I wouldn't have done that"....
....or.....
...."I can't believe he, or she, said that"....
....or even....
...."that will NEVER happen to me"?!?!

I can't even remember how, or why, I started doing something many years ago....and that was to try to put myself in someone else's shoes....try to see things thru their eyes....try to get their perspective on things....when I see somebody do, or say, something that might not have been the way that I thought I would have handled a situation....I've tried my best to consider what they were going thru at the time....maybe what their frame of mind might be.

I wonder why 2 of the little quotes that go along with this topic both deal with shoes....

....."walk a mile in my shoes".....
and
....."what if the shoe were on the other foot".

Both meaning.....what if it were you who was faced with what that person was facing....what would you do?

How do any of us truly know.....unless we're faced with the very same thing.  My Mom used to tell me....and I really didn't understand it as a child, but fully understand it as I've gotten older....

.....given the right set of circumstances....and the right frame of mind....it (and "it" could be a whole multitude of things)....could happen to any of us.

I've said and done things that I thought were totally out of character for me....but it had to do with where my head was at at the time, if you know what I mean!!!

So.....bottom line....we truly don't need to be so quick to judge....but....we do need to be ready to counsel a person....if their actions aren't lined up with scripture....with the Word of God....with what HE says is right and wrong.

After all....it's His opinion that truly matters!!!

2 Timothy 3:16 (NLT)
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.

Blessings to you!!!

In His Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!

  1. Amen! It is good to consider the "other person" and not be so quick to judge. However, as human beings we sometimes respond abruptly or interpret things the wrong way. Yet, sometimes the other person really is wrong. Another good expression is "Haste makes waste." Maybe not being so impulsive would help. Maybe not being so quick to judge would help. Above all, considering what God would have us do would be most helpful.
