There He goes again.....

....speaking to my heart!!!

A sweet friend and I have talked before about how a lot of devotionals....that were probably written far in advance of when we read them....seem to have a big neon sign flashing over the top of them that says something like:
READ THIS DEB....
IT WAS WRITTEN JUST FOR YOU!!!

For most of my teenage and adult life, I've always felt somewhat responsible for other people's happiness. I don't know where, or when, it started....but I've always felt that somehow I have it within my power to "fix" everything....make it right....make others happy....and often I go overboard in that department....to the extent of making myself miserable!!!

In other words....I'm a "people pleaser"!!!
I picked up a magazine to look at....and don't ask me why....but I turned to the very last page, instead of starting at the beginning like I usually do.  The word "blessings" at the top of the page caught my eye so I scanned the article....and the more I read the more interested I became....and when I got to the very last sentence, here's the point that the lady was trying to make:

"I no longer suppose that I can control other people's happiness....that job is theirs"!

I read that line....and went back and re-read it....and realized that one simple statement was the reason I turned to the back of the magazine first....because God had something He wanted me to understand.

I AM NOT responsible for other people's happiness....for their mistakes....for their wrong decisions.  I know that I can be an influence on other people....but, ultimately....when it's all said and done....true happiness....comes in knowing God!!!

Psalm 128:1-2 (NLT)
How joyful are those who fear the Lord - all who follow his ways!  You will enjoy the fruit of your labor.  How joyful and prosperous you will be!

Are you wasting your precious time trying to make your spouse happy....your parents....your children....a friend....a co-worker....your boss?
Then, take my advice....and quit beating yourself up if no matter what you do, it just doesn't seem like enough when it comes to some people....and leave it up to them and their relationship with God!!

P.S....reading that article is as far as I got reading the magazine....wonder if I'm missing something else God has to say?!?

Monday Blessings to each of you!!!

In His Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!

  1. It is hard not to try to make others happy! I guess we could strive not not make them unhappy! :-)

Wishing you a day full of God's blessings!

  2. I love this! I have a good friend who thinks she can fix everyone and everybody. I think she's getting a little better about it, but in the big dimension she loses focus on the things or people around her that need a little attention too.
