{ Just ask }

I wasn't going to post today, but I read something this morning that just jumped right off the page and into my heart and mind and prompted an immediate prayer to the Lord for a desire of my heart. I'm writing this more for myself than anything so I can document it to look back on later.

The first thing that caught my eye was the title of the devotional:
"Hope and Disappointment"

Anything with that word HOPE will ALWAYS catch my attention.
 The scripture verse that went along with the devotional was this:

Job 6:11
What strength do I have that I should continue to HOPE?

This question was asked by Job after the health (physical and mental) crisis he was enduring.  But, the gist of the devotional was about how we don't have because we don't ask.  Often we.....I.....don't ask because I don't feel like I'm worthy to ask "that" (whatever "that" might  be) of God.  Who am I to expect God to answer "that" prayer from a sinner like me?  After doing a bit of research, I found that's exactly what God tell us to do in His Word.

Matthew 21:22
 If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.

Matthew 7:7
Ask and it will be given to you;
seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to you.

So I immediately prayed a prayer expressing what was on my heart to the Lord.  He already knew, but I think He was waiting for me to speak it to Him, letting Him know that I do believe He can answer that deep longing I have about a certain situation (actually a couple) that we're  going through.  The key, though is asking "Thy will be done".

Psalm 37:4
Take delight in the Lord,
    and He will give you the desires of your heart.

Can any of you relate to not being able to ask BIG of the Lord?  It's not that I don't believe He can, it's that it's difficult for to ask anything for myself.  I'll pray those things for you.....
but not for me.

HOPE this resonates in the hearts of some of you reading this, too.
If this prayer is answered anytime soon,
I'll be sure and let y'all know!

HOPE everybody has a Terrific Thursday!
It's raining in my neck of the woods!

  2. I feel the same way. And, well, quite frankly - my (our) "first world" problems seem so trivial to the world's chaos in general, so I hesitate.
    Save for good health, cuz we need our good health to be prayer warriors for God - so that I never hesitate to ask for.

    Have a wonderful weekend. Hugs. ♥

  3. Oh Deb, I sometimes feel guilty when I talk to God because I know I am so unworthy. I also know He doesn't want us to feel that way, He wants us to humble ourselves before Him. Many, many times I've had to give myself a good talking too and spend some quiet time listening to the Holy Spirit counsel me. Our God is so good.

  4. Lately, I had given up on asking God for anything. It just seemed so much was needed, I didn't know where to begin. This week, I finally gave Him all the "stuff" I've been dealing with - physically and emotionally. He loves for us to come to Him as little children. Thank you, dear friend, for this post.

  5. I pray for others all the time and know well the power of prayer. I do not pray "big" for myself though. It feels selfish somehow - though I do ask others to pray for me when there is something big that needs prayers. This is a wonderful post and I'm glad you were moved to write today!
