Weekly Recap #51 - (Part 1) James

James was the brother of Jesus.  He is first mentioned as the oldest of Jesus' four younger brothers in Mark 6:3.  Jesus' family was skeptical about His ministry and James didn't become a believer until after Jesus crucifixion.  In the Book of Acts, James emerges as a leader of the church in Jerusalem.

James 1:2-3
Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.  For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.

James 1:12a
God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation.

James 1:14
Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away.

James 1:19b
You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.

James 1:22a
But don't just listen to God's word.  You must do what it says.

Do not favor some people over others....don't discriminate (because God sure doesn't!!!)

James 2:14
What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don't show it by your actions?

James 2:26
Just as the body is dead without breath, so also faith is dead without good works.

The Tongue
James 3:2b
For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.

James 3:6
And the tongue is a flame of fire.  It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body.  It can set your whole life on fire.....

The tongue cannot be tamed....it is restless and evil and full of deadly poison.

James 3:9
Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of  God.

Blessing and cursing come from the same mouth.

Scriptures about asking God for something.....

James 4:3
And even when you ask, you don't get it because your motives are all wrong - you want only what will give you pleasure.

James 4:8a
Come close to God, and God will come close to you.

Don't make grand plans.....
James 4:15
.....if the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.

James 5:16
Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.  The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.

I love the last part of that verse!!!

In His Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!
