Fast and Pray

I know it's Tuesday.....
but, we'll talk bout the next "Seven Deadly Sin" tomorrow.

Today, I feel it's very important that we talk a little about this election. For the past several weeks, the following verse of scripture has been quoted a lot, in relation to the Presidential election (including on my own blog):

2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV) - If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

I want to use the following verse of scripture, along with the above:

Mark 9:29 (KJV) - And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

Jesus spoke these words to his disciples when they asked him why they weren't able to cast out an evil spirit from a boy brought by his father to Jesus. Jesus explanation to his disciples was that it took fasting and prayer to cast out the demon. Our dear interim pastor, Dr. Liner, spoke about when you have a really big decision to make.....
to fast and pray about it.

I've read on several blogs today about the need to fast and pray...so that's what I'm asking us to do today. If you can't completely abstain from food...then try to have a day of just liquids...or try to cut out a specific food, i.e., sweets, bread, meat.
I even read a suggestion that you could cut out something else that might be important to you...TV...music...computer...games. Whatever it is that you choose to abstain from....let the reason be to help you to find more time to pray and to draw closer to God...open up your Bible and read scripture. For those who haven't voted early....pray for all of those going to the polls today. Pray that they will allow the Holy Spirit to lead them and guide them to make the right choice.

Psalm 55:1 - Give ear to my prayer, O God; and hide not thyself from my supplication.

Proverbs 15:29 - The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.

  1. I feel like God will win victory either way. He knows what it will take to turn this nation back to GOD. Maybe it is just the fear of the outcome of the election that will make people vote the right way or the alternative which either God will win. I read one blog yesterday the lady said she thought she would moved to Hong Kong if the election went the opposite way she hoped for.
