Please.... thank you....and I'm sorry!!!

Jess is teaching Big Brother to say "please" and "thank you" and "I'm sorry".
It's so sweet to hear him say "peeez"....and "sahwee"!!!
Have you noticed that sometimes children are more polite than some adults can be?!?!?

I was going thru the checkout the other day getting groceries and the store was very crowded. There were several people in line behind me...and the debit card machine locked up. I felt so bad, so I turned and said to the man behind me, "I'm sorry". Now...this man heard me because his kids heard me...and I noticed one of the boys looked up at his Dad, I think to see what his reaction was going to be. This poor man....was so angry because he was having to wait...that he wouldn't even look at me...he had such a mean look on his face...which made me feel even guiltier....even though none of this was my fault!!!!
I say "poor man"...because...isn't it sad that such a trivial little thing could cause somebody to get so angry? I think that's a lot of what's wrong with today's society....not that I'm some kind of expert on people's behavior....but nobody really wants to take the time to slow down and be polite. Everybody is rushing here and there and thinking only of themselves!!! So...here's what I want you to do...of course I know everybody who reads my blog is polite and ALWAYS has the patience of Job...and ALWAYS uses the words "please", "thank you", and "I'm sorry".....but...just on the off chance that you don't...or, you're having a bad day...or, you know somebody else who this fits and you want to direct them to my blog....then here's what I think each of us need to do....maybe the next time we're in Food City, or Wal-Mart, or Food Lion...or the Dollar General, or Family Dollar....here's what I want us to do:

1. Smile and say "hello", or "how are you"...to everybody you see. If they smile back, or answer you good...if they don't...then, don't take it personally.
We don't know what's going on in their life!!!

2. If it's not an automatic door...then, hold the door open for the person coming in behind you, or, if there's someone coming out the other door, hold it open for them...and SMILE!!!

3. If you see someone with their arms full, thinking they didn't need a buggy....offer to go get one for them.

4. If you see an item that has fallen off a shelf, pick it up and place it back where it should go. No, it's not our responsibility....but it's the nice thing to do....and remember, we're minding our manners here!!

5. If you see somebody struggling to reach something on a top shelf...and you're tall enough...help them get it down!!!

6. When you go thru the check-out, compliment the cashier.
Don't be dishonest...but if you like what they have on, tell them how nice the color looks on them. Comment on how fast they ring up your items, or how well they bag up your things. It doesn't matter what it is....just say something nice to them....make them feel appreciated!!! After all...who of us doesn't want to feel like we're needed, or doing a good job!!!

7. If there is somebody behind you in line with only an item, or two, and you have a buggy full...let them go ahead of you. It will make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside knowing you did the right thing...again...don't be in such a hurry...slow down and think of others!!!

8. After you put your items in your car....put your buggy back where it belongs. And...if you see somebody else, especially an elderly person (like me)...offer to take their buggy back, too, along with yours.

9. If it's raining...and you see somebody without an umbrella...offer to let them walk with you under yours (this is if it's another lady....if it's a man, then, you make up your own mind there!!!)
And....if you see a lady carrying a baby in an infant seat with no umbrella...offer to cover up the baby with your own umbrella!!!

Now...if EVERYBODY did this....EVERY day....and EVERY single time that we go out to shop....wouldn't it be a much more pleasurable experience?!?!?!?

Remember the "Golden Rule":
Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.

Matthew 7:12 (NIV)
So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you,
for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

Leviticus 19:18 (NIV)
Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD.

This has become one of my very favorite sayings:
"Be kinder than necessary
because everyone you meet
is fighting some kind of battle"

In His Love...and with mine!!!

  1. On the mail route, when there are people outside, I always wave to them and smile. They wave back too. I have some come chat a minute. It's neat to talk with them. There is an eldely lady who can't get around very well and her children come and help her. She sits in her lazy boy which is near the door. If her door is open when I drive by, I give her a big wave and she does wave back. Now that's warm and fuzzy. Now I'm not tall, but if I see someone having trouble getting something and my kids are around, I nudge my kids and get them to help that person. I have taught my kids to be polite and helpful.
