A tribute to......

.....Senior Citizens!!!

Today....it's official....I am now considered a Senior Citizen!!!  A lot of restaurants start giving a discount at the age of 55.  When I go to some of my favorite thrift stores....they already give me a whopping 25% off....which I LOVE.  Makes me wanna go back and dig a bit deeper and see what else I can find!!!
But....
.....am I considered "old" just because of a number?
....and who sets the standards....who decides when I'm "too old"?!?!?

Let's see what the Bible says about old age....but first...we're gonna listen in on a little conversation between Nannie (me)...and Big Brother (our oldest grandson who is only 3.5):

Nannie to Big Brother as she lifts him out of the store buggy:
"Do you want to walk, or do you want Nannie to carry you"?

Big Brother: "Carry me".

Nannie: "One of these days, you're gonna be too big for Nannie to carry. You'll have to carry Nannie when she gets old".

Big Brother:  "Are you old now"?

Nannie:  "Do you think Nannie's old"?

Big Brother:  "Uh-huh"!!!
(as he smiles)

Proverbs 17:6
"Children's children are the crown of old men..."
(and women)

And....since it's getting very difficult for me to see....even with my glasses:

Galatians 6:11
Ye see how large a letter I have written unto you with mine own hand.

(okay...I understand this meant Paul's lengthy letter to the Galatians....but....I took it to mean LARGE letters)

Respect your elders:

Leviticus 19:32
"Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the Lord."
(in scripture...."hoary" means gray...and am I ever)

Wisdom comes with age:

Job 12:12
"With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding."

This one is my absolute favorite concerning getting older.  I want to share with you the NLT version.
I'm gonna claim this verse as my own:

Psalm 71:18
"Now also when I am old and greyheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come."

And....this is the kind of woman I hope that I can be....as I continue to age....and I continue to write my blog....for HIM:

Titus 2:3-5
The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

In His Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!

  2. Happy, Happy Birthday....

Yes, getting a smidge older is rewarded with that wonderful discount! :-) It somehow makes it worthwhile.

Jeremiah 29:11 is my very favorite scripture verse. I have hung onto that promise many times......I even have it engraved on a necklace.

    Warm hugs,
    Spencer
