To God be the glory

Let's talk about weight loss.

Are you thinking, "Oh, no, here she goes again"?

I know it's not the first time.....and I'm sure it won't be the last time this topic is discussed....but....let's talk about weight loss in regard to honoring God.

I had the opportunity to weigh one day last week at my doctor's office and I had lost 12 pounds since I was there a few months ago.  My doctor was very pleased and so was I.  Don't we all feel a sense of pride when we've accomplished a goal....especially for us gals when we've lost a few pounds?  As people at church begin to notice and comment on my loss and ask me how I'm doing it.....I tell them walking more and eating healthier, or eating less, or cutting out certain foods.....but, not once I have said that I'm doing it with the Lord's help.

I've been thinking a lot about this lately.....this subject of weight loss and how so often we let it consume us....and how when we are able to shed a few pounds we get all prideful and say "look what I did".  As I was walking by myself on Monday morning (since my walking buddy is having some problems and needs our prayers) here are the thoughts that I had about loosing weight....and the Lord.....

****Yes, I try to get up most mornings and go walk....but WHO gives me the ability to get out of bed to do that?

Psalm 28:7 (NLT)
The Lord is my strength and shield.
I trust him with all my heart.
He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy.
I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.

****Yes, I've been trying to make healthier food choices (disregard the can of cake frosting, please)....and cutting out....or at least cutting back....on certain foods that I know aren't good for me.  But....where does the wisdom and knowledge come from to make those choices?

Job 12:12-13 (NLT)
Wisdom belongs to the aged,
and understanding to the old.
“But true wisdom and power are found in God;
counsel and understanding are his.

What I'm trying to get across can be summed up in the following verses of scripture....that our body is not our own....we belong to God....He created us....so whatever we do....we need to do to His glory....not our own.....

Romans 12:1-2 (NLT)
And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.  Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Wednesday Blessings to each of you!!!

In His Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!

I am so proud of you. Keep up the good work. We have a gentlemen at church that has lost 50 or more since January. He does say with God's help I have accomplished this. By cutting back and exercising. Bro. Clint he is leaving this week-end to pastor a church in North Carolina. Please remember him and his little family (wife, son and daughter).
    Love ya!!

  5. Amen! Amen! And congratulations, Deb. I would like to lose 10 pounds to get back where I was a couple of months ago. It is FOR Him, BY Him, THROUGH Him, and TO Him that I "live, and move, and have my being"!

  6. Congratulations! Oh how I need His strength to do this. Apart from His grace, we cannot do a thing. But it's not like He doesn't require anything from us. At least for me, this journey with Christ has always required my stepping out with faith and staying committed when it gets tough. Ugghhh...I just have to get started.

Thanks for sharing and thanks for stopping by earlier.
