A Balm for the Soul

Just recently....I've heard the word balm used in sermons....and prayers....and I've even used it to describe how I feel about a person.

When you think of the word itself....what comes to mind?

The first thing I think of is ointment that you put on a burn.

 Jeremiah 8:21-22 (NLT)
I hurt with the hurt of my people.
I mourn and am overcome with grief.
Is there no medicine in Gilead?
      Is there no physician there?
   Why is there no healing
for the wounds of my people?

The New Living Translation (my favorite!!!)....actually does use the word "medicine"....instead of balm.

Do you know anybody you can describe as a "balm"?  Somebody who is so good at soothing over hurt feelings?   A person who is right there to offer comfort and compassion....to help heal whatever "burn" life has tossed your way?
Is there somebody in your life right now that has come to mind as you've read this?
If there is....don't hesitate to let them know!!!

I know more than one person like that....and I'm so grateful for them....so glad they're in my life to listen and help and console and advise!!!

I give thanks to God for my "balmy" friends!!!

Tuesday Blessings to each of 'ya!!!

In His Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!

  1. This is wonderful. I have heard this verse before but have never really understood, I guess. I love the way you explained it. I have several people I could describe in this way. Thanks for this post.
