Memo Board Makeover

Remember a few weeks ago when I showed y'all the jewelry hanger I made out of a cabinet door to hold my necklaces and earrings?  Well....I failed to mention that I still had a multitude of pins that needed a new home, too.  Now...according to Oprah, pins are no longer fashionable....and to that I say....well....I say I really don't care what Oprah thinks....I love my pins!!!

So....in order to have a place for them that was handy....and to clean out the drawer space that I really needed for my scarves....here's a little tutorial of what I came up with!!!

Took a very old bulletin board that I've had 4-ever....
Took off the ribbons and buttons....and covered it first with a piece of muslin, since the design on it was going to show thru my "decorative" fabric.

Used hot glue to attach the fabric to the board....and have yet another blister to show for it....OUCH!!!

Oh, I'm really liking it already....and here's a close-up of the fabric.
Isn't it pretty?!?!
I hot glued black gross-grain ribbon onto the board....and stapled it in the places where I would glue the buttons that I had covered in a circle of the same fabric....and placed it back into the frame that I had already spray painted black....

And, glued a piece of the same ribbon to the top that I had used on my other jewelry holder.
....but it still lacked something....so I dug thru my ribbon stash....and came up with this....

Ahhh....much better!!!
And....here she is hanging on the side of the old armoire (which I'm in the process of painting blue, by the way)....holding my pins!!

I love how it turned out!!!
Here are a few close-ups of my favorite pins.....
The pink leaves on the bottom left....and the marcasite dragonfly....were both gifts from Jess....and she made me the little pink wooden heart for Valentine's Day one year....:) See the little guitar pin at the very top...my Daddy bought that for me when I was a little girl.  It's made out of mother-of-pearl and has actual little strings on it.  Little did I know at the time I would have a GRAND-son who is crazy about guitars....so it will probably belong to him one of these days!!!

And....of course....I have a few little owlie pins....

Whatcha think?
It was super simple to make....just took a little bit of time...about $3 worth of materials....and a very painful hot glue burn!!!
;)

Thursday Blessings to each of you!!!

In His Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!

  1. Love it, love it. What's that fabric? Twoll or something like that. I forget.
    But it's an amazing project.
And Hey, Oprah and I disagree on lots and lots of things. Sounds like PINS (or brooches as my MaMaw called them) is another area.
I've got lots and lots. And actually wear them.

Or, better yet, just make another one and send it to me! :0) I LOVE IT and it would match my dining room and kitchen PERFECTLY!!! :o) You are SO talented. I don't have a creative bone in my body. HUMPH! That just isn't fair. :*( LOL!

I hope you and your family are having a really wonderful week. Take care, my friend!

  4. Looks wonderful! And I find myself disagreeing with Oprah more and more as the years go by. I love my "brooches" and enjoy wearing them. This looks like a great way to keep them organized. :)

  6. That is cute. You are just so talented, what a gift God gave you. I agree with Ms. Ro Magnolia, Oprah just doesn't have it anymore and I really don't pay attention to what she says anyway. Maybe that's why this is her last season on tv. LOL Love ya..........:)

  9. That's such a great idea and it turned out great!
I quit watching Oprah a long time ago; I just don't agree with most of her views and I think she pushes them on people and uses her celebrity status for political issues. I hate it when celebrities do that!

  16. Lovely! Thanks for sharing about this today. I love pins and don't really think they ever go out of fashion. Otherwise, why would we desire to have our grandmother's pins so much. I really like the guitar pin. That is pretty special. My husband gives me a new pin every Christmas. It's a fun tradition.
