Going along with the crowd!!

Pappy and I just finished up reading the Books of Matthew and Mark.  Something that really stood out to me was when Jesus was on trial before Pilate.
Let's learn a little about Pilate.

Since the Jews could not execute a person without approval from the Roman authorities, the Jewish leaders brought Jesus to Pilate to pronounce the death sentence. (Mark 14:64).  Pilate seemed convinced that Jesus was not guilty of anything deserving death....and he tried to release Jesus.  He also didn't want to aggravate the Jews and run the risk of damaging his own reputation and career.  So....when they insisted on Jesus' crucifixion, Pilate turned Jesus over to be executed.  Even though he realized that Jesus was innocent....and he had the authority to uphold justice and let Jesus go....he went along with the crowd.  Even Pilate's wife knew that Jesus was innocent, and tried to convince him not to execute Jesus....so....do you remember what Pilate did?!?!
 Matthew 27:24
Pilate saw that he wasn’t getting anywhere and that a riot was developing. So he sent for a bowl of water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying,
“I am innocent of this man’s blood.
The responsibility is yours!”

It's just not that simple, is it?
We can't just decide that because we knowingly do something wrong....that we knowingly SIN....that we can just take a bowl of water and wash it all away!!

Yes....Pilate certainly went along with the crowd....

Mark 15:15
So to pacify the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He ordered Jesus flogged with a lead-tipped whip, then turned him over to the Roman soldiers to be crucified.

As I studied this part of scripture concerning Pilate and did a bit of research on him....I was reminded of the shooting at Columbine High School in 1999. Remember the young lady who was asked if she was a Christian?  Her name was Cassie Bernall....and when one of the killers asked her at gunpoint if she believed in God....and her answer was "yes".....she lost her life!!!

Going along with the crowd....is the easy way out!!!
The hard part....is when we stand up for Jesus....even if it means sometimes having to stand alone!!!
But....we're not really alone....He's right there with us!!!

Hebrews 13:5b
 “I will never fail you.
      I will never abandon you.”

In His Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!

  1. Found your blog through some kind of Friday blog follow thing. Noticed that most of the blogs on the follow were not my cup of tea, then I come to yours hearing Chris Tomlin's "Enough"--yeah! And such a great post with so much truth.

In 1991 I moved to Los Angeles from Maryville, TN and when I saw you were from Strawberry Plains that was another big plus. Look forward to what you have to say on your site.

Thanks for giving me a platform to say this.
