Weekly Recap #42 - (Part 2) Mark

Let's get right into the Book of Mark!!

Mark was also known as John Mark.

Words about John the Baptist....
Mark 1:3
He is a voice shouting in the wilderness, "Prepare the way for the Lord's coming! Clear the road for Him"!

John the Baptist preached that people should be baptized to show that they had repented of their sins and turned to God to be forgiven.  He ate locusts and wild honey.
 These were John's words....
Mark 1:8
I baptize you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit!"

This is sort of the verse that our church as adopted since we FINALLY got a new pastor!!  He describes our church as the "hook"....that we will cast out and create a ripple effect....and we will "fish" for people!!!
I LOVE IT!!!
Mark 1:17
Jesus called out to them,
"Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people".

Four friends brought their paralyzed friend on a mat to see Jesus, but couldn't bring him into the house because of the crowd.....so.....they cut a hole in the roof and lowered the man on his man right down in front of Jesus.  Seeing their faith, Jesus healed the man!!!

Jesus' own family thought He was crazy and only became His follower after His resurrection.
Mark 3:21
He's out of His mind!
This is what His family said of Him.
:(

Jesus was accused by the teachers of religious law to be possessed by Satan.
Mark 3:22
That's where He gets the power to cast out demons.

Remember we've already discussed parables several times.  I like this one because it reminds me of the song, "This Little Light of Mine"....
Mark 4:21
A lamp is placed on a stand where its light will shine.

Jesus cast evil spirits out of a man and sent them into a herd of about 2,000 pigs...and the pigs ran down the steep hillside into the lake and drowned.

Mark 6:4
Then Jesus told them,
"A prophet is honored everywhere except in His own hometown and among his relatives and his own family."

Mark 6:6
And He was amazed at their unbelief.

Mark 7:15
"It's not what goes into your body that defiles you, you are defiled by what comes from your heart."

Mark 7:21-22
For from within, out of a person's heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride and foolishness.

Mark 8:36-37
And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?  Is anything worth more than your soul?
Mark 9:23
"Anything is possible if a person believes."
Mark 9:24
I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief.

Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the cold brought to Him by His disciples.  He cleared the Temple of those buying and selling animals for sacrifices.  The leading priests and teachers of religious law continued to plot how to kill Him...but they were afraid of Him because the people were so amazed at His teaching.*
(remember this statement!!!)

Mark 11:25
But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.

The Widow's Offering
Mark 12:44
For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.

Mark 13:22-23
For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God's chosen ones.
Watch out!
I have warned you about this ahead of time.

Mark 13:32-33
However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven, or the Son himself.
Only the Father knows.
And since you don't know when that time will come, be on guard!  Stay alert!

Mark 13:36-37
Don't let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning.  I say to you what I say to everyone:
Watch for Him!

Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.

Jesus and His disciples observed The Lord's Supper.

Jesus predicted Peter's betrayal.

Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, an olive grove.  His disciples couldn't stay awake and pray with Him.  Judas came and betrayed Him with a kiss.  Peter pulled out his sword and cut off the ear of the high priest's slave - but Jesus healed him.

Jesus was put on trial before the Jewish high council.
Mark 14:56
Many false witnesses spoke against Him, but they contradicted each other.
(they couldn't get their stories straight)

Peter denied Jesus 3 times - just as Jesus told him he would.

Jesus was put on trial before Pilate.  Jesus would not speak to answer the accusations against Him.

Now....go back up to the *....and isn't it strange that all of those people who spoke up in defense of Jesus....well, where were they now?  For one thing....Jesus had a very hasty trial....at night...which might not have even been legal in itself....so his followers....his defenders....were probably asleep!!!

Barabbas was in prison for murder, but he was released....but Jesus who had one NO WRONG....was sentenced to death.

Pilate wanted to release Jesus, but the crowd insisted that He be crucified.  Pilate asked what crime He had committed, but the mob roared even louder,
"Crucify Him".

The soldiers mocked Jesus....this part just broke my heart as to how badly they mistreated Jesus and disrespected Him....but....haven't I done the same thing myself in my own way?
:'(

Jesus was crucified at 9:00 in the morning and at noon, darkness fell across the whole land until 3:00 pm.  At 3:00, Jesus called out in a loud voice (which was a miracle itself because when crucified, lungs collapse and the one being hung on the cross can barely breathe....let alone cry out with a loud voice....but Jesus....HE SHOUTED!!!

Very early on Sunday morning, Mary Magdalene, Mary, the mother of James, and Salome went to Jesus tomb with  burial spices to anoint Jesus' body.  An angel was there and told them that
"He isn't here!  He is risen from the dead"!
AMEN!!!
He told them to go and tell his disciples, including Peter....that Jesus was going to Galilee ahead of them.

I still love that the first person that Jesus appeared to was a WOMAN....Mary Magdalene....the woman from whom He had cast out seven demons!!!  When she told the disciples, they didn't believe her.  Jesus appeared to the eleven and told them
"Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone".

After He finished talking with them, He was taken up into heaven and sat down in the place of honor at God's right hand!!!

And....that's exactly where my HOPE lies....that I'll get to meet Him face to face in heaven one of these days!!!

AMEN....and AMEN!!!

In His Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!
