Thursday Trivia

I love the Book of John.
It's my personal favorite of the four gospels.
It's no wonder that John was known as
"John the Beloved"
because you can tell in his writings how much he loved his Master!  Plus....remember that when Jesus was hanging on the cross, it was John who He directed to take care of Mary, His mother.  What a precious testimony of the faith and trust that Jesus had in His beloved disciple.

But....something that has always puzzled me is why so much of the gospels are written in the third person....especially, the Book of John.  I decided that this "inquiring mind" wanted to know so I did a bit of research and found that was the style of writing in ancient times, so it wasn't unusual that John would write in the third person....but what I read that touched my heart the most....the reason I want to think John wrote in that style....was because he wanted the emphasis to be on JESUS....not on himself!!!

What a selfless act on John's part.  It made me think of my blog and how many times the words "I" and "my" and "me" and "mine" are typed.

My prayer is that God will empty me of "me"....and fill me up with more and more of HIM!!!

Psalm 51:10-12
Create in me a clean heart, O God.
Renew a loyal spirit within me.
Do not banish me from your presence,
and don’t take your Holy Spirit  from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and make me willing to obey you.

In His Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!
