Pride!!!

Proverbs 16:18
Pride goes before destruction,
and haughtiness before a fall.

When I read this verse of scripture I'm reminded of the old saying I've heard all my life about getting down off your high horse....meaning don't think we're better than others.  That's what I think of when I think of "pride"....and I've never really considered myself prideful....until.....

I find it very....very....difficult to ask for help....and for the most part, I won't, except for Pappy.  A few months ago when my car tore up, I was taught several lessons and one of them had to do with my pride.  My sister-in-law....Pappy's sister....called about a week after the car overheated and asked if she could come by.  When she walked in the back door, she handed me her car keys and told me I could use it as long as I needed it.  That's probably one of the nicest things that anybody has ever done for me.  I would have never asked to borrow her car....or anyone else's for that matter....and you know why?
Because of my "pride".

I'm now convinced that sometimes the "fall" referred to in this verse has to do with falling on our knees in repentance....and thankfulness!!!

HOPE your day is blessed, Sweet Reader!!!

In His Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!

  3. That is really interesting because if we think about it, I agree that we have more pride then we are aware of.

That was so nice of your SIL to lend you her car, and the pride lesson was a good thing, I say the Lord is always teaching us through even the smallest trial!

    God bless

  5. Wow, what a great post!

I am a lot like you I never ask for help. I have never looked at it from this prospective, sure makes me think.

I have been lucky being bless with an amazing mother, when ever I really needed help she always showed up and offered and wouldn't take no for an answer. I never had to ask, she must of known that I wouldn't.

I know sometimes it's good we don't ask for help, but we need not let pride get in the way for the reason. Thanks for pointing that out.

I learned back several years ago, taking a Bible Class that I wasn't good at praying. I always prayed for forgiveness and thankfulness, and other people, but not for myself. I always thought praying for myself was selfish. Thankfully I learned that I was wrong and that we can pray for ourselves, God always answer's prayers, we just got to realize that he answers them the way we need, not always as we see it.

    Thanks you for this post!
    Blessing!

  7. Your not the only prideful one, we all are, and more so today. There was so much more give and take years ago.. What a lovely sis-in-law.. I had a friend once, I still have her but we now live in different states and rarely see each other. Well she told me I had to let others give to me because I always gave, so I got more blessings.. After that I learned and so enjoyed. xxx
