Our daughter and son-in-law chose to let our GRANDsons know that there is no Santa. They are sworn to secrecy so that they won't burst the bubble of those little kids who do believe that Santa brings their gifts. I have mixed feelings about this. I can still remember when I realized that my Daddy and Momma were actually "Santa". I was so disappointed!!! But, it did give me the freedom to snoop the house after that looking for my gifts!!!

I so agree that we need to instill in our children that CHRISTmas is all about.....CHRIST!!! I received a card in the mail one day this week from a lady I used to work with....almost 25 years ago. She's a dear CHRISTian lady.....and on the front of her card was a painting of Santa....holding a child....to represent the CHRIST child!!!
I ordered a book for our boys, that I haven't received yet....but I'm hoping that it will explain a little further to them how Santa "came about", so to speak!!! The story is about Saint Nicholas and how he was a CHRISTian man with the spirit of giving!!!
In keeping with the 3 gifts that we're told in scripture that the Wise Men brought the baby Jesus (there could have been more)....
....gold, frankincense and myrrh....
....our boys received 3 wrapped gifts under the tree from their Dad and Mom....
....a need, a read, and a want....
something that they need
(socks, socks and more socks!!!)....
....a book to read....
....and something special they've asked for!!!
I think this is a great idea!!!
And....in keeping with the spirit of giving....I chose a winner for the little book I'm giving away. There were 17 entries....and random generator chose....

Christmas is about Christ....I admire your children for telling truth...isn't that amazing..how that we "commend" each other for telling truth...and when did it ever become appropriate to lie....guilty as everyone else...I taught my child of a fatty jolly man with long beard and red suit that snorted his way down chimneys < LOL Deb, we did not even have one > LOL ..crazy isn't it...some say it is all in fun, or it is the Christmas spirit, but truly the deception of this world to pull us away from the Truth? has been accepted as the "spirit of things"....So kudos to your children and may you all have a very Merry CHRISTmas!

ReplyDeleteI don't remember how I found out that my parents were Santa, but I do remember being excited to help fill the stockings and put gifts under the tree!

ReplyDeleteVery thoughtful post. We struggled with the Santa story for my children. My parents wanted us to teach them to believe in Santa but we chose not to. Now my children are grown and two of the four are teaching their children to believe in Santa and two are following our path. It all becomes right in the end.
