Bad, bad idea!!!

Do you ever do something and you kinda have that feeling in your gut that maybe it was a.....
....bad, bad idea?!?!?
When I left our daughter's house yesterday, I didn't lock the gate.  Now before you go and think that it's some kind of elaborate, fancy type gate....let me assure you it's a heavy farm gate with a chain and a lock.  Mom was with me and she asked me if I thought I should go back and lock it and I said "No, Pappy and I are coming back tonight to get a few things done."
Bad, bad idea!!!
When it first started snowing yesterday, and I saw how hard and fast the snow was coming down, I realized that Pappy and I probably shouldn't attempt to get back out in the dark, so I hopped in the car and thought I would just make a quick trip up there and lock the gate.
Bad, bad idea!!!
I carefully drove up there, went up the long driveway, which is gravel, thank the good Lord, so I had traction....went in the house and checked a few things, petted Miss Etha Jane, the cat that I might have to bring to our house before it's over 'cause I'm kinda smitten with her....hopped back in the car and backed up into the yard beside the chicken coop.
Bad, bad idea!!!
With all the rain, the ground was very, very soft and I got stuck.
I tried and tried and tried to get the car out, but it would not budge.  By this time it was snowing to beat the band, as the old saying goes,  and all I had on was a light-weight jacket....no gloves.  I got out and went to the back of the house and found a board that I used to put under one of the back tires and with a lot of backing up and going forward and getting out and moving the piece of wood and washing my muddy hands off in the snow and getting almost frost bitten....the car FINALLY moved into the driveway.  I thought I would come home a different way because the road they live on is a back road and if I turned left out of their driveway, instead of right, I could get back down to the highway quicker.
Bad, bad idea!!!
When I finally got to the highway....here's what it looked like out my windshield.....
And, right after I took this picture and got to the top of this hill, the rear end of my car started fishtailing....and I started doing a whole lot of praying.  Thank the good Lord above there was a car up ahead of me making tracks and I stayed in their tracks the rest of the way home, praying for myself and for them to stay safe.  I made it all the way to the hill that leads up to our house....and because it hadn't been traveled....and because my car is in dire need of tires....I couldn't make it up the hill, so I had to park the car and walk the rest of the way....in a lightweight jacket....and no gloves.  By the time I got home, I was soaked and frozen and a bundle of nerves!!!

Maybe I should have never hung out this flag.....
.....bad, bad idea!!!

Hope everybody got home yesterday safe and sound.
PLEASE be careful if you have to get out and about this morning.
This gal is staying put!!!

In HIS Most Precious Lve....and with mine, too!!!

Blessings,
Deb

  2. Poor you, not a nice experience. It is snowing here at the moment and the threat is more to come and heavy. I so hate it because I cannot get out. Looks pretty when it first falls, but that is about it. If we get a heavy fall I may take a very short walk with my camera, whilst it is still soft and take some shots. Take Care

  4. Giving praise that you made it home safe - even if you were wet and frozen. I'm a little jealous... we were expecting snow down this way (about 2 hours south of you), but didn't get any. Just a little sleet last night. I would like to see a little of the white stuff before spring.
