The Common Cold.....

.....of the soul!!!

That's an explanation of depression given by Dr. David Jeremiah.

He went on to explain that, yes.....
CHRISTians get depressed.

The GOD-thing to me was.....
I turned the radio on at just the right moment to hear Dr. Jeremiah's comments!!!

He explained that most of the time our depression comes from one of two sources.....

an event that happens in our life
(death, divorce, etc.)

a hormonal imbalance

As I've shared with y'all in the past,
I have suffered from depression for a big chunk of my life.....
and not just my adult life, either.
My own personal experience with depression started at a young age.
In the past I've taken medication.....
and my doctor.....
who is a CHRISTian, by the way.....
explained to me that taking meds for depression is no different
than a pill you would take for diabetes,
or high blood pressure!!!
(praise the Lord, I've been medication free for almost 3 years)

If you suffer from depression.....
NEVER allow somebody to try to tell you to just get over it.....
or, that it's a sin for you to be depressed because you're a CHRISTian.

Keep in mind that Job, David, Moses, Jeremiah....
and even more of the major characters in scripture suffered from bouts of depression!!!
Just read the Psalms that David wrote.
How often was he in a "miry pit"?

Remember Paul and his "thorn in the flesh"?
That's how I've explained my battle with depression!
For me, I can't help but wonder.....
is this how God keeps me humble?

2 Corinthians 12:7b-10
So to keep me from becoming proud,
I was given a thorn in my flesh,
a messenger from Satan to torment me and keep me from becoming proud.
Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away.
Each time he said,
“My grace is all you need.
My power works best in weakness.”
So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses,
so that the power of Christ can work through me.
That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses,
and in the insults,
hardships,
persecutions,
 and troubles
that I suffer for Christ.
For when I am weak,
then I am strong.

Breathing in Jesus,

Deb

I have fibromyalgia, so I have times when I do battle with depression myself. You are a blessing to me...I do so enjoy your blog. Thank you for being a courageous soul and sharing with your readers about this. xo

I also have suffered with depression for many years, I finally found the right med for me and have been taking it for some time. (Well, I didn't find it my Physician led me to the right doctor who prescibed it for me!) God Bless you, and always remember, He holds our hand. We're gonna be just fine! ((hugs))

  3. So sweetly put, Ms. Debbie! Many of us suffer from depression from time to time. Feeling guilty about it is just another way the Devil brings us down. It just makes us feel worse and so he has done his job!
