We remember.....

Did y'all know that Memorial Day was originally called "Decoration Day"?
You can read more about it here.

Today, I want to pay tribute and honor those in my own family who have served in the military to protect my freedom.

My paternal Grandfather - known as Pappy to us grand kids
(this is why my hubby chose to be called Pappy)
George L. Wiles, Sr.
He lost his hearing due to shell shock in WWII

George L. Wiles, Jr.
My paternal uncle who also served in WWII

Robert Wiles
My paternal uncle who died in combat in WWII
I was never privileged to meet my Uncle Robert,
but I've seen pictures of him in his uniform.
He was such a handsome young man.....
he and my Daddy favored.

Carroll J. Huffaker
My very special father-in-law who also served in WWII in Germany

And, my precious Daddy, Hal W. Wiles who tried to serve,
but was turned down due to health reasons.

Breathing in Jesus,

Deb

  1. What a lovely tribute!

My grandfather, my Dad, my brother, two BIL, one daughter and one son. All military. One brother-in-law was the first to die in Vietnam from Cherokee County Oklahoma.

I have flowers to visit the cemetery today.
