To blog or not to blog.....

.....that is the question?

One of the sweetest, most precious of bloggers has decided to close her blog as of this past Saturday.  She gave such valid reasons and I totally understand.  First, she closed her Face book account, something I did myself in April of 2014, then felt God prompting her to give up her blog.  I've read other posts about bloggers who are getting a bit burned out, or praying about what direction to take their blog.  I think the summertime is also a hindrance to bloggers, because we have so many other things going on and we just have to let something go!

So.....
I just thought I would pose a question to you all.
Why did you start blogging?
How long have you had a blog?
Has it changed, or evolved over the years?
Did you start out writing about one thing,
then totally switched subjects/directions?
Have you taken breaks from your blogging?
Are you considering just giving up entirely,
or maybe blogging only certain days of the week?

Yes, I have an inquiring mind!
I will probably do another post on this subject soon, once I get a feel of what others are thinking.

HOPE EVERYBODY has a terrific Tuesday!!!

  1. You know Deb, I was thinking the same things....and it saddens me about our mutual friend....smiles---ok here goes....

Why did you start blogging? Prob because I had a 'tween'---that was back in 2007-2008. My son is now 18, so he was prob 9-10 back then...hey, math is not my fortay, lolol

How long have you had a blog? 2007-2008...it was originally called Life's a Calling, Who's This

Has it changed, or evolved over the years? Yes, it sure is...now...it is Just Simply Linda, because that is who I am...Just Simply Linda....

Did you start out writing about one thing, yep...motherhood/wifehood

then totally switched subjects/directions? Hmmm....good question....yep...I guess you can say I evolved.

Have you taken breaks from your blogging? Yep...and "fixin" too soon.

Are you considering just giving up entirely, no...I gave up FB nearly 2 yrs ago thanks to the smut on there from family...this is my private oasis.

or maybe blogging only certain days of the week? With school starting soon, I will be blogging not often as I do now. I have to buckle down so I can get into grad school next yr.

    Have a good day Deb....great questions...Blessings

    1. We started blogging around the same time! I like the title of your first blog...that's very catchy!!! I'm not sure where God's leading me....I don't think to quit, though. Thanks so much for answering all my questions!! HOPE you've had a good day!

  2. Oh, Deb, you hit on something that has been on my mind so much! I just came off a blogging break and was very close to closing it down all together. My problem seems to be that I just don't have a lot to say. I'm not a very talented photographer so I don't take photos of gardens or flowers etc. I'm not much of a cook so there are no recipes. Sigh. I began blogging as an off shoot of my web site. It was fun to connect with others and as blogger became more user friendly with the ability to customize the blog's appearance, I was delighted. I almost think that is my favorite part of having a blog - redecorating it. I've blogged since 2008 and actually earlier when you count my journal that was on my web iste. Honestly, I don't know that I will continue with my blog. There are so many demands on my time now. What keeps me blogging are the friends I have met. Have a lovely day.

    1. I knew you were probably feeling the same way, since you took your break. Like I told Ms. Linda, I'm just not sure where God's leading me. I KNOW I'd so very much miss all my sweet blogging friends. It's so unreal the connection we can have with others although we've never met!

  3. I began blogging when I was homebound and isolated with Lyme and other diseases/conditions. I had a place to share what I knew about Lyme and express my feelings and thoughts on being chronically ill. Eventually I started a blog that focused on Jesus and as time went on and I was healed from Lyme, I stopped blogging on the Lyme blog and have focused on my blog, Entering His Rest. It is a place I write.....and share.....and hope to inspire others. There are times I have thought of stopping.....but for now I have not. God will direct that decision! I know I am inspired by what you and others write....even though I don't often comment.....God bless.to everything there is a season....

    1. Bless your heart...."homebound and isolated". I don't know a lot about Lyme disease, other than it's BAD stuff! I'm sure that many connected with you on that blog, like they do on your current one. Like you, I just don't visit like I should....I need to work on that, too! Thank you so much for your sweet words and taking the time to comment!

  4. I started blogging in late 2009, hard to believe it's been that long. I've taken my blog in several directions but I have always come back to my original way of blogging. I am suffering severe burn out. Every new post I think, haven't I already done this? I've met some wonderful ladies along the way and I would miss the comments we exchange. But I'm really thinking it's time to stop, I can't seem to get motivated anymore. Just going day by day, waiting to see what happens.

    1. Oh, my precious Friend. I think I'm exactly where you're at right now, too. I'm just not sure what direction to take. But, PLEASE, don't EVER QUIT without telling me....we've gotta stay connected some other way, if not through our blogs. You mean so very much to me!!

  5. I started blogging in 2007. I blog most every day and enjoy the memes on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. I really don't "blog" but rather just call this my journal. I love meeting new people here and have met a dozen of so of my blogging friends in person. Sometimes I take a day, week or weekend off, but usually because of vacations. I've not considered closing my blog, but do sometimes think of limiting the days I post....but haven't so far. I would miss you all too much!

    1. I completely agree about missing my blogging friends way too much to completely give it up. I've considered limiting my days, too.

  6. Barbara H left a message and I accidentally deleted it when trying to publish it from my phone. Ms. Barbara, is you're reading this, I'm terribly sorry!

Hi Debbie - I noticed your comment on Melanie's post today and wanted to stop by because I very much feel that my blog is a ministry, too. At least, that's what I desire for it to be. I started blogging in July of 2007, a little over 9 years ago. I wanted to be a light for the Lord in the blogosphere, to share what He was teaching, to encourage women in their roles, to talk about books, and to be a help to anyone with the same or a similar illness as I had (transverse myelitis). Though I love to share posts from the Word of God, I also like to share just conversational posts - I think when we're truly living for Him, He shines through whatever we do. I thought that was particularly true in Dianna's blog. Over the years, I haven't blogged as much on the illness as I thought I would, maybe because it is at a manageable level for me and I can pretty much function as I need to. I used to participate in a lot of weekly memes, and as much as I enjoyed the interaction, decided that wasn't what I wanted my blog to be full of, so now I only participate in Friday's Fave Five regularly. I have kept the same unimaginative name I started with, "Stray Thoughts," both because I haven't come up with anything better and because I don't want to confuse or lose what readers I have by switching. I haven't taken any significant blogging breaks, except when we moved to TN five years ago and when we have out-of-town family visiting. I used to blog every day of the week, but now it's usually 3-5 days a week. I don't keep a regular blogging schedule except for the Friday posts. I have never seriously considered giving it up, never felt like the Lord was leading me to. I've wanted to accomplish some other writing and wondered if I would need to cut back on blogging to do that, but so far I've felt that it is both an outlet and a ministry for me, my husband supports it, my kids are all grown so I am not neglecting them in order to blog. So for now I keep plugging along. Very nice to "meet" you!
