John 9:1-3
As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man
who had been blind from birth.
“Rabbi,” his disciples asked him, “why was this man born blind?
Was it because of his own sins or his parents’ sins?”
“It was not
because of his sins or his parents’ sins,” Jesus answered.
“This happened so the power of God could be seen in him.”
I recently was telling a friend about someone we knew and a misfortune they had happen to them. The question was asked by someone else listening about did they deserve this, what sin had they done to bring this on? It kind of took me by surprise and I've thought about it off and on since. The Bible tells us that it "rains on the just and the unjust" (Matthew 5:45), meaning "good" and "bad" things happen to all of us, Christian or not. It made me wonder how many times I've passed that same judgment on others and on myself. I know many times in my own life when something happens that I deem as not so good I question if I'm being punished instead of asking myself how can I allow this to bring God glory. Now, I'm not saying that we don't have to pay for bad decisions we make, because I know for a fact that we do (I could write a book, people).....
but according to the scripture I shared at the beginning, EVERYTHING that happens is to show the power of God and to give Him all the glory (not us). I'm reminded of a man who said that everything he had he got on his own, it was because of his own hard work, that God had done nothing for him. Oh, be careful little mouth what you say.
Another thing I feel God was speaking to my own heart because of this conversation was why can't we just all love one another? Why is there so much jealousy and backbiting and judgment and pride and not taking other's feelings into consideration?
Life is short.
Let's long to love like Jesus!
