Crossroads

For Jess' 8th grade graduation, she memorized and recited the poem by Robert Frost..."The Road Less Traveled"...or sometimes also titled, "The Road Not Taken". This poem has always been interesting to me because it makes us stop and wonder about the road we travel during our lifetime....or, the choices we make....what they lead to, or what might have been different if we had chosen another path....made a different decision....said "no", instead of "yes", or vice-versa!!!
THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED
by Robert Frost
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth
Then took the other as just as fair
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet, knowing how way leads onto way
I doubted if I should ever come back
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence
Two roads diverged in a wood
And I took the one less traveled by
And that has made all the difference

The traveler reaches a cross-roads where he looks down both paths trying to decide which one to take. Isn't that like all of us? We reach a place in our lives where we have to make a decision? Should I take this job, or should I go back to school, should I marry this person, should I buy a certain thing, should I build a house, should I quit my job, should I allow my child to do this, or that, should I show my anger, or bite my tongue (this one is probably just me!!!)?

There are so many important decisions to be made in our lives....and, each one with a consequence....whether it be good, or bad!!

Did I always consult God before arriving at a decision...or....did I just do what I wanted, instead of what that still small voice was speaking to me that HE wanted me to do? I cannot honestly say that I've always sought God's guidance in all of the questions of life. I wish I had, because I've made lots of mistakes along the way....things that I said, or did....and God wasn't in it. Don't you wish that you could explain that to your children...or, your grandchildren...or nieces and nephews...or even a friend going thru something similar? Don't you wish they would listen to you and learn from your mistakes? I so wish somebody years ago had tried to guide me and direct me and help me to grow and learn based on some of their own life experiences!!!

Would I have listened?

I don't know!!

I do know that a lot of the mistakes I've made have been a HUGE learning experience for me!!! At least that much good came from a wrong!!!

There's an old song titled "The Old Crossroads"....here are a few of the lyrics:

The old crossroads now is waiting
Which one are you going to take
One leads down to destruction
The other to the pearly gate
Each of us have a decision to make....whether we accept Jesus into our hearts, or not....then once that decision is made...and hopefully each of you reading this right now have already done that and you're already a child of God...we are faced with lots of other decisions that require prayer and asking God for discernment in making the right choices.
Psalm 119:105 (NIV)
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.
In His Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!
