Initial Plaque Tutorial

A sweet reader asked me to do a tutorial on how to make the initial plaques.  I'm not sure I'm very good at this...but I'll give it a try!!!

I purchased the wooden plaques from Dollar Tree...but....you can also get them at Hobby Lobby....and some Wally World's carry them, too.
The ones I bought at Dollar Tree already had ribbons attached.  I removed most of them because I wanted to attach ribbon that coordinated with the papers.
The initials came from Hobby Lobby....2 to a pack!!!

I didn't get a picture of what I did next. I painted the wooden plaques in colors that coordinated with the papers. Most of the ones for the girls got "bubblegum" pink. I painted the entire back of the plaque, just because I'm a bit on the picky side....and around the edges. I painted the top part, where the paper will be glued in about an inch all the way around.

These are scrapbook papers that I found at Hobby Lobby.

I placed the wooden plaque down on the piece of scrapbook paper and traced around it...then, cut it out.   You can use Modge Podge to glue the paper to the wood....but....I used spray adhesive.
If you're gonna use spray adhesive....be sure....to take it outside....don't ask me how I know that!!!

Once the papers are glued down....set the plaques aside to dry.  In the meantime.....paint your letters in  colors that coordinate with the paper
(unless you're smart enough to paint them at the same time you do your plaques)
I also "antiqued" the letters a bit with some watered down brown paint.

I hot glued the initials to the plaques.  Then...I took them outside and gave each of them a coat of clear sealer.
Next....I hot glued a pretty coordinating ribbon to the top.

And....voila....here are the final results!!!

 So....that's that about that.
Hope it makes sense.
If not...just leave me a comment, or shoot me an e-mail and I'll try to explain further....or, better!!!

Blessings to you,

  3. You did a wonderful job describing the process of creating these great plaques! (Wish I could write a tutorial that could explain how I lost the weight that you inquired about. It took awhile for my determination to kick in....so many starts, "failures", re-starts, etc. Lots of praying. Regular 30 minute exercise and eating nutritious foods in smaller amounts....That's basically what I did.)
