Weekly Recap #8 - Numbers 31 thru Deut 18

Before I get into our recap of this week's scriptures....I have something to share.

Have you ever had one of those days....or weeks.....when you feel like singing the little children's song.....

"Nobody loves me....everybody hates me....I think I'll go eat worms"?!?!?!

Okay.....it's not been that bad....but it's like my sweet sister-in-law said....
....."it's never just one thing....it's when they all add up and you just get overwhelmed"!!

Can I get an "Amen"?

I love it when we've had a bad day....well, I don't love bad days....but....I love how when we're low and feeling a bit down and out and blue....and having ourselves a pity party....that God sends a precious blessing our way.

And...that's just what He did!!!

This is what came in the mail for me yesterday.....

....from my dear....precious....friend....Ms.Teresa!!

She's supported my blog since I first started to "blog for God".

Thank you so, so much.....what a blessing you are to me!!!

If y'all are following along with "reading the Bible thru in 2010"....then, you'll know that the book of Deuteronomy is a recap in itself.  It's sometimes known as the farewell speech of Moses to the people of Israel just before his death.  The word comes from a Greek word meaning "second law", and in the book Moses presents to the people a reminder of the many laws of God.  The book teaches that God's laws are given for our own good....to help us stay close to Him....in our attitudes and behavior.

Here are a few things that I found interesting:

~~~When the Israelites took revenge on the Midianites for leading some of them into idolatry, they chose 12,000 men armed for battle and attacked the Midianites.  In this battle, Balaam was killed "with the sword".  Remember Balaam who beat his talking donkey?
Not a single Israelite died in this battle.
~~~The tribes of Reuben and Gad didn't want to cross the Jordan, but wanted to stay on the east side and let that be their grant of land because they had so many livestock. They were allowed to do that as long as they sent troops to fight and claim the Promised Land....which they promised to do.

~~~Eleazar the priest and Joshua were designated to divide the land among the tribes once they reached Caanan....according to the instructions that the Lord gave to Moses.
~~~The 40 years that the Israelites wandered in the wilderness could easily have been covered in ELEVEN DAYS....if they had proceeded on the journey without any detours or interruptions!!!
Plus....during those 40 years....their shoes never wore out....and they never got blisters on their feet!!!
It's not odd....it's GOD!!!

~~~One of the cities that the Israelites conquered was Bashan.  King Og of Bashan was the last survivor of the giant Rephaites.  His bed was made of iron....and was more than THIRTEEN FEET LONG and SIX FEET WIDE!!!
~~~Moses reviewed with the people all the rules and regulations that God had given them.  He told them not to add to, or subtract from the commandments....just to obey!!!

~~~Deuteronomy 4:7
For what great nation has a God as near to them as the Lord God is near to us when we call on Him?
~~~When Moses was on Mt. Sinai receiving the ten commandments.....he ate NOTHING and drank NOTHING.
How many of you've heard the rule of 3?
That humans can go only 3 minutes without air.....3 days without water......and 3 weeks without food?!?!
Moses was fed....supernaturally.....by our GOD!!!

I want to leave you with one of my very favorite verses from this week's reading:

Deuteronomy 10:12
What does the Lord your God require of you?
He requires only that you fear the lord your God,
and live in a way that pleases Him,
and love Him and serve Him with all your heart and soul!!!

Isn't that exactly all that He requires of us today?

And....if I keep my focus on Him....and off of myself....there'll be no need for any more of those selfish pity parties!!!!

Blessings to you!!!

In His Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!
