Women of the Bible - Michal

Michal....not a very memorable lady in the Bible....but her story can serve as a reminder to us today.  She was the youngest  daughter of King Saul who fell in love with David and was given to him by her father to be his wife.

David was filled with joy at being able to bring the Ark of the Covenant back to Jerusalem....so he danced before the Lord with all his might.  At the time, he was only wearing a linen loincloth (and in some translations, he was actually naked).
Michal accused her husband of lewd behavior....of uncovering himself in front of the eyes of the maidens.  She became very sarcastic toward her husband....and his response to her was that his dance was a dance of joy, faith and happiness in the Lord.
He asked Michal....
"where is your joy in the Lord"?

Because of Michals' judgment and condemnation toward David, she showed a lack of love in her soul...and she died without ever having a child.
This was a terrible tragedy for a Hebrew woman.

Conclusion:
What really spoke to me most about this entire story....wasn't just that Michal stood in judgment of a "man after God's own heart"....which I can't say I wouldn't have done the same if I saw Pappy dancing half naked in front of a group of young women....but it was David's question to his wife...
"Where is your joy in the Lord"?

Until next week!!

In His Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!

  1. You are NOT a bad blogging buddy. Blogging is almost like a full time job to do it perfect and none of us are! I'm sure you can tell the outcome of my story by the many previous posts though huh?

  2. Wow...great question Deb! You are so right. When we are tempted to judge our brothers or sisters in Christ..we should ask ourselves that. Sometimes we have just lost that closeness with the Lord that results in Joy.
