Women of the Bible - Delilah

(not an actual portrayal because according to scripture,
the Philistines actually cut Samson's hair)

We can't talk about Delilah without including Samson.....because of him, she played a very important part of "Women of the Bible".

Samson was a very foolish man and had a weakness for pagan women.  He fell in love with a woman named Delilah, who possibly was a prostitute....a woman from the Valley of Sorek.  Delilah proved to be the cause of Samson's downfall.  She was bribed by the Philistines to find out the key to Samson's strength.  She nagged him until he finally revealed that the secret was his uncut hair, which wasn't to be cut  because he had taken the vow of a Nazarite.  While he slept, Delilah called the Philistines and turned Samson over to his enemies.  He became weak not only because his hair had been cut....but because the Lord had departed from him....due to his disobedience.   There was never any mention in scripture that Delilah loved Samson as he loved her.

Conclusion:
I know this is probably an odd conclusion....but as I studied about Delilah....I kept thinking about that old saying....

"A whistling woman and a crowing hen
will always come to no good end"

In other words....both the whistling and the crowing grate on nerves after so long.
That's the same thing that Delilah did to Samson....

Judges 16:16 (NLT)
She tormented him with her nagging day after day until he was sick to death of it.

May I say....lesson learned!!!
;-)

Until next week!!!

  1. Love this story and your conclusion. I guess we all better watch out who we nag and what we nag about.
