Pappy asked when I was going to choose Deborah as my topic so I thought I would talk a bit about her this week. When I sat down to study, I found there was not one, but two women in the Bible named Deborah, so this week, let's talk about the lesser known of the two.
(Rebekah, her maids, and her nurse all travel to be with Isaac)
Deborah was a nurse to Rebekah, Isaac's wife.
She went with Rebekah when she left Mesopotamia to become his wife, probably spending her years caring for their sons, Jacob and Esau. She died at an advanced age and was buried below Bethel under a tree called Allon Bachuth, meaning "oak of weeping", or "tree of tears"....a fitting name for the burial place of one who had served so long and faithfully!!!
Genesis 35:8
Now Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, died and was buried under the oak outside Bethel.
So it was named Allon Bakuth.
Conclusion:
What I can gather from the scripture about this Deborah was that even though all we really know about her life is that she left her home to be a nurse to Rebekah....she was still significant enough to be mentioned in scripture. Don't ever think that what you do goes unnoticed....somebody has taken note of what you do and say....and you are definitely significant in God's eyes!!!
