Friday Food for Thought!!!

 ****Edited to add****
Notice the "verse of the day" over to the right.
Don't you agree that it goes perfectly with this post?
(Ephesians 6:14)
It's not odd....it's God!!!

It's FRIDAY....time for our "Food for Thought".
Today, let's talk about "treasures".

If you look up treasure at Merriam-Webster, here's what you'll find....

wealth (as money, jewels, or precious metals) stored up or hoarded
wealth of any kind or in any form
something of great worth or value
a person esteemed as rare or precious
  a collection of precious thing

I want to share a few things with y'all that have happened to me in the last several months that have to do with "treasures"....

I recently was led to a story about a person who had stolen a large sum of money from the company they worked for....so large that the company was forced into bankruptcy.  They were convicted and served their time....and would have HOPEfully learned a lesson....but according to what I read, they are still taking money from others in their current business dealings.

I overheard a conversation between some people and they were discussing how much they had spent on a particular item.....which happened to be an ink pen.  When I heard them discuss that they had paid close to $400 for an ink pen....and one of them had six of them....I immediately had to speak up and say that $2,400 would have paid off my roof!!!
(I know....it was none of my business and I should have just said nothing)

Another conversation was with a young man who was bragging on how much he had paid for the suit he was wearing....and prior to that, he had criticized some people who were doing some manual labor and called them "the peons".  Pappy and I went to those people and thanked them for the job they had done and apologized for how they had been treated.

I witnessed someone belittle another person.  I felt so badly that I didn't speak up and say anything at the time....but I did go back later on and tell the lady how sorry I was.

Do I think I'm better than any of these people I've shared about?
Absolutely not!
I'm a firm believe in the saying.....
"There but by the grace of God go I"

But, what I do know....is that each of these situations have made me stop and think about my own walk with the Lord....and the kind of example that I want to set for others....and to try to be more careful about what I say and do because somebody might be watching....or listening!!!  I truly want my "treasures" to be based on this verse of scripture....

Matthew 6:19
Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal.

I don't want my treasures to be material things....but on things that matter to the Lord and that will bring Him glory.

Luke 12:34
Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

Happy Friday, Sweet Reader!!!

HOPE you have a wonderful weekend!!!

  1. Great post. I really try not to be judgmental about how people spend money but I still fall prey to that. Especially an ink pen! When there are so many in need.

  7. My husband and children have always been known as my treasures. I treasure my relationship with my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ above all things.

Thank you, Deb, for being such a good woman and an example to so many of us. Happy weekend!
