A Weighty Matter!!

Yesterday morning at church, the guest speaker read this verse of scripture as part of his message.....

Hebrews 12:1 (NLT)
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.

It got me to thinking about how I am in desperate need to loose "weight".  I'm not talking about physical weight....although I could certainly use help in that department, too....but I'm referring to the weights that hinder my walk with the Lord....the ones that keep me from running.  Just like that donkey in the picture that couldn't run if his life depended on it, with all that heavy weight to lug around.....I often feel the same way.  I had a sweet friend explain to me once that "weight" and "sin" are not necessarily one and the same.  Of course, sins are heavy and burdensome....and I have to ask God to search my heart and reveal those to me and ask for His forgiveness.  But, the weights....well, they're a bit different.  The weights are often things that we can get rid of ourselves....but for some reason we just keep hanging onto them, letting them weigh us down.  So, Sweet Reader.....if you have a "weight" that you need to get rid of that will help to free your mind and heart and give you the peace that you are longing for....why not start today....
....I know I am!!!

Happy Monday, Sweet Reader!!!

  2. What a great picture to illustrate such a significant point! I constantly need prodding to do just this - "strip off EVERY weight..."!

  4. LOL...what a funny picture! It tells an entire story about the extra weights we carry around with us! Good intentions, but no traction!
    Happy Monday sweet friend!
