Superstition Ain't the Way!!!

I Timothy 4:7
Do not waste time arguing over godless ideas and old wives’ tales.
Instead, train yourself to be godly.

All our lives most of us have heard those silly little things that have been handed down generation after generation telling us that if we do, or don't do certain things we'll have "bad luck"!!!  Out of curiosity....and just for fun....I thought I'd share a few that I remember.....

Find a penny pick it up and all the day you'll have good luck.

Don't walk under a ladder.

Don't let a black cat cross your path.
If one crossed the road in front of our car, we would make an "X" on the windshield with our finger!!!
I guess that was supposed to x out any bad luck!!!

A rabbit's foot will bring you good luck.
Well, it sure didn't for the poor bunny!!!

You'll have 7 years of bad luck if you break a mirror.

Knock on wood.
(in my case, I just knock on my head....;-)

Cross your fingers hoping a wish will come true.

Don't open an umbrella in the house, or you'll have bad luck.

Always leave the house thru the same door you entered.

Don't spill the salt....and if you do, throw some over your left shoulder.

It's bad luck to count the cars in a funeral procession.

If your right hand itches, you're gonna shake hands with a stranger.
If your left hand itches, you're gonna come into money!
(come on left hand....itch!!! ;-)

If your nose itches, somebody is going to pay you a visit.

Friday the 13th!!
I read that there are 17 MILLION people who fear Friday the 13th!!!
Not me....my precious Daddy was born on Friday the 13th....and even though I don't believe in "luck"...
.....I was sure one "lucky" girl to have him for a Dad!!!

How 'bout you....can you share any more superstitions that you grew up hearing?!?!?

In HIS Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!

  1. My granny always said that about your hands and nose itching! Also, if your ears ring, someone is talking about you! But, like you, I put no stock into superstitions. But it is fun to hear some of the old superstitions!

  3. I have heard of most of them except for the funeral one. My grandmother had one. She said don't name your baby with a name that is part of your name or else the baby will have something wrong with it. My mom was named Nellie after her grandmother. When my mom lost her eye, Nannie told her that she knew she shouldn't have named her Nellie.
