A Cup of Cold Water

At church yesterday morning and last night I heard two stories that were very similar.  I helped out in the 5-6 year old class yesterday morning and their lesson was about how we all have an invisible bucket that needs to be filled every day.  Others can fill our bucket with things like hugs, phone calls, sharing, notes, cards, saying "I love you".....
or, they can take out of our bucket by being rude, unkind, telling lies on us, etc.  Last night we had an awesome "Ladies Night Out".  Our pastor's wife shared a couple of real-life stories that had happened to her and both of them related to "a cup of cold water".  I thought about the things that both her stories and the kids' lesson had in common.

"A cup of cold water" can be a literal glass of water....
or it can be something that we do for others to bring them comfort and joy.....
a kind word, or deed, or even a smile....
something to bring them refreshment just like a cup of cold water does when we're hot and thirsty!!!

When we got home from church last night, I asked Pappy to read an e-mail that I had received from a reader.  It was something that a sweet lady had taken the time to write to me and included a prayer request.  Little did she know that in being obedient to the Lord to send me that e-mail.....
.....she was giving me "a cup of cold water".

We were given a challenge to be "a cup of cold water" to someone this week.
So, I want to extend the challenge on to you and ask that each day we try to find a way to fill up someone else's invisible bucket!!!

In HIS Most Precious Lve....and with mine, too!!!

Blessings,
Deb

  3. Thank you for sharing at "Tell Me a Story." Yes, the smallest thing that we can do for someone is as if we did it unto Jesus, even if it is a cup of water.

  6. Great analogy Debbie. It seems I'm getting lots of those cups lately. There really is nothing more rewarding than helping those in need or encouraging them and it's such a powerful thing to help those in need, knowing it is the Lord you are serving. It's really the heart of being a servant. May we all fill many cups each day. :)

PS. Thanks for my note and your blog is beautiful! :) Love the pretty layout.
