Making plans.....

James 4:14-15
Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow.
What is your life?
You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
Instead, you ought to say,
“If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”

Those verses of scripture remind me so much of my Momma.
When I was growing up, when it came to making plans, she pretty much wouldn't commit to anything.
Her answer was ALWAYS.....
"I will if I live and nothing happens"!!

That used to drive me bonkers.....
'till I realized it's in scripture.....
and it's a commandment from God!!!

Pappy and I were talking just a few weeks ago about how it does us no good to make plans.....
because when we do, so very often, God will up and change our plans all around!

But, that's quite alright.

His plans are so much better than ours!!!

(this little "stained glass" was given to me by a friend almost 26 years ago)

So, how about you?
Do you make a lot of plans?
Or, are you kinda like my Momma and go ahead and make your plans,
but realize that they just might not work out.....
if it's not in God's will?

Breathing in Grace,

Deb

  1. I am one who will make plans far into the future and reading your post reminded me that tomorrow is not promised to us. I even just remembered a song that we used to sing in church that went, 'I don't know about tomorrow. I just live from day to day. I don't worry about life's sunshine for it's skies may turn to gray.' It was a really beautiful song and one that I haven't heard in many, many years. I believe it was meant for me to visit your blog this morning, Deb. I needed to hear that... :)

  2. I am by personality a planner so yes I always make plans. However, I too know that if it is not in God's Will then I truly don't want it....His way is always the best way even if I don't understand.
P.S. Having problems with blogger again today not showing my post. Say a little prayer as I am about ready to ditch it! Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  3. Hi Deb! Oh my yes, I make all kinds of plans. But who knows if they will come out just as I plan or not? That's the joy and frustration of being a Christian. We make our plans, but God always knows better. So even if they don't work out, I have to believe that it's because my plan and his plan didn't line up.
That doesn't mean that I avoid frustration. I don't. But I think I get over it faster!
    Have a great Monday :)

  4. Deb, I am reminded of an old saying that Tennessee Ernie Ford always said, "If the Good Lord's willing and the creek don't rise." For some reason those few words made a big impression on me and I have used those same words many times over the years. Great post dear friend. Have a blessed day.

  5. Hi Deb, Yes, I do make plans and with the best of intentions. But you are so right, they don't always unfold as planned. I've been giving a lot lately, which I love to do. But it doesn't always turn out as well as I'd like it to. One item mysteriously vanished during shipping, which really worries me about the package I'm sending to Canada. But if its Gods will, the gifts will make their way to their intended recipients :)
    All the best to you.
