Pappy is on "stay-cation" this week.
We've decided to just take a few short trips,
instead of spending a lot of money on a big trip.
(we're getting more and more stingy frugal in our old age)
This past Saturday we drove about an hour away to an Amish community in Chuckey, Tennessee.
Mountain View Bulk Foods is a little store that has a HUGE assortment of cheeses and breads and candies and spices and just all sorts of neat stuff. We brought home a big homemade cinnamon roll with caramel frosting (it was delicious), some REAL butter, and this gorgeous hand-made sign.....
The Farmer's Daughter is the restaurant where we ate a late lunch.
We had never been to a restaurant that served that much food.
You get your choice of two meats and they bring TWELVE small containers of vegetables.....and dessert. We ate around 2:00 in the afternoon and, needless to say, we didn't have enough room to eat supper that evening. I couldn't even eat my dessert!!!

We had such an awesome day together!!!
Is it sad that I'm already dreading Pappy going back to work.
Oh, how I look forward to when he can retire!

ReplyDeleteNow THAT'S OUR style of vacationing! And for myself, I always sleep better at home, anyway. I appreciate restaurants with atmospher like the one you ate at. Actually, this morning I met a friend at Cracker Barrel and they were playing a Christian CD in the background! It was SO wonderful. 'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus was one of the songs playing.......
