{ Wednesday's Words - The Bright Side }

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, then you probably already know what happened to me yesterday.  I decided to take a walk around the neighborhood around 10:30 in the morning.  I grabbed the keys, locked the door and headed out.  About 30 minutes later, I get back to the house, open the storm door, and immediately realize that the key I took wasn't going to work because Pappy had changed out the door lock and hadn't replaced the old key yet.

 Oops!!!
I was locked out of the house.

Jess teaches a co-op class on Tuesday's so I couldn't call her.  Pappy had gone to work and then to a doctor's appointment, so he couldn't come let me in.  I sat down on the front porch and pouted for a little bit, then decided that wasn't gonna be very productive so I got up, went to the back porch where we keep a lot of our gardening supplies and mixed up 2 gallon of weed/brush killer.  After I sprayed all of that, I decided to push mow the yard.

My Mom would never commit to anything when I was growing up, instead she would say "if I live and nothing happens".  I couldn't understand why she wouldn't just say a simple yes or no.  I came across a verse of scripture several years ago that reminded me of her and realized she had the right attitude all along.

James 4:14-15
How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow?
Your life is like the morning fog—
it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.
What you ought to say is,
"If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that."

Yes, my plans for the day got changed.
But.....
the lawn mower and weed killer were where I could get to them.
I got lots of exercise.....
(just ask my joints).
It was a beautiful day.
The yard is mowed for the week.
And, Pappy came home earlier than I had expected.

Thank you, Lord, for showing me the "bright" side.

  1. Well you changed my attitude with this post, Deb. I do get a little, well maybe a lot, frustrated sometimes when I wake up at 1 A.M. and 3 A.M. and can't go back to sleep. I am going to take your advice and look for the good in this and in the day that follows. Maybe there's a bright side to it if I just look for it.
    Have a sun shiny day!

  2. You handles that situation so well. Beautiful attitude my friend. Reminds me of the song, Keep on the Sunny Side always on the sunny side, keep on the sunny side of life.. We keep a hidden key for times like that!! Hope your Wednesday is Wonderful.

  3. I probably wouldn't have handled the frustration very well at first but you certainly had the right idea. You got some exercise, some gardening done and all turned out okay.

  4. Good for you!! Bet you have the new key on your keyring! My saying is "Good Lord willing and the crick don't rise..." Kind of the same thing I think. I'm impressed that you got so much work done while waiting. My impatience would have surfaced and we would be repairing a broken window probably. We DO have a combination keypad on our garage door, so there is always a keyless way to get in if you know the combination (our neighbors and kids do).

  5. You handled it very well! At least you could have called Jess if you had too. Girlfriend, my cell phone won't reach from house to another's house! LOL! I'd still be sitting there waiting on someone! Actually I would have walked to my FIL house and probably fussed all the way! You are my hero with your attitude! Love the little sayings today. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  6. You are an encouragement to me! I would not have been so resourceful. I probably would have stomped around and threw a fit, called someone, anyone, to try and help me get in... :) Thanks SO much!

  7. Great advice. My mother used to say she would do such and such if "God willing and the creek don't rise."
Glad you had things to keep you busy!

  8. Well, another good thing that came from your experience is this wonderful post! My granddaughter hates when her Papa "beats around the bush'. She listens patiently, and then asks, "Was that a yes or a no?!" Your post reminded me of the old chorus, "I know Who holds tomorrow and I know Who holds my hand." (Ira Stanphill)
