{ Wednesday's Word - Introvert }

introvert

Introvert comes from Latin intro-, "inward," and vertere, "turning." It describes a person who tends to turn inward mentally. Introverts sometimes avoid large groups of people, feeling more energized by time alone.

Have y'all ever taken the Myers-Briggs personality test? It only takes around 15-20 minutes and if yours turns out anything like mine, it's pretty spot-on in describing your personality traits.  Here's the chart listing each of the 16 combinations your own personality will fall into.....

I knew before I even took the test that my first letter would be an "I", indicating that I'm an introvert. I feel that very often introverts are misunderstood because some words that have been used to describe me are a stick in the mud, superior to others, stuck-up.....
all "traits" that can be traced back to those 4 letters that describe me.

"In general, introverts avoid crowds, dislike small talk, enjoy long periods of solitude, and prefer deep conversations to party chatter. They are often introspective and realistic about their own flaws. They gravitate toward one or two solid friendships rather than surround themselves with acquaintances. They tend to enjoy creative aspects of self-expression such as art, writing, or music. Many of the world’s greatest artists, authors, and musicians were introverts."

I'm sure my family has wondered why for so many years I go and get in the corner, behind the wall, at Pappy's family Christmas gatherings. I can still see everything that's going on in the room, yet feel a bit hidden and out of the limelight! It's partly because it scares the heebie-jeebies outta me to be in the center of the room. Often I miss out on fun things at church or I'll decline invites simply because it's so much easier to stay home than have to socialize.

A question was asked at the JOY study about when we feel we can be the most "real" and you know what I realized? I can be REAL when I write this blog. I can share my faults and shortcomings and pour my heart out about things that have meaning to me and sometimes post things I've made (which makes me uncomfortable because I'm afraid of being perceived as bragging). So, this blog has been a wonderful outlet for me. I guess it's sort of a journal of sorts, but one that others can read and hopefully sometimes relate to in their own life.

So now that I've written y'all a novel.....
are you an introvert or an extrovert?
Have you ever taken this particular personality test?
Are you going to?
When do you feel you can be the most REAL?
And, for the record.....
I'm an ISFJ!

HOPE your Wednesday is awesome.....
whether you go out in public, or not!

  3. Well it looks like I'm in the INFP category. Although I always though I was an easy outgoing extrovert type of person. Enjoyed this post very much. Have a day of blessings my friend.

  6. I come out as ENTJ and ESTJ alternately as I have taken the test many times and get many different answers to the questions which are all pretty vague really.
I had a big discussion on this test a week ago with someone who was basing a lot of their life on it and was considering making a post about it.
My post won't be very positive about it though. But I trust it will be interesting.
Whatever your personality type, I think you are a lovely person and enjoy your blog a whole lot. You seem to me to be the kind of person people would love to be around.

  7. ENFJ I tend to be an extrovert, but not as much as I used to be. I find that I value quiet time a lot more now than I used to. I guess it is possible to change over time. We need ALL kinds of people to make the world go round!! Thank you for posting this.

  8. I'm an introvert too and I've taken the MB test but I fall kind of on the border between an I and and E. Funny that no one who knows me personally believes I'm an introvert. They all see me as outgoing. They don't know how much I have to work on it.

  10. I've taken that one and a few others and they are right on. It's been too long ago for me to remember exactly what the letter were.
