A Proverb a Day.....

.....in the Month of May!!!

I cannot believe how quickly the month of May passed by!!!
WOW!!!
I so thoroughly enjoyed the study we did in Proverbs.

You can click on the page link above "Study of Proverbs" and see a recap that some of us did each day, sharing what we gleaned from reading and doing a bit of research.

I want to share what I learned from the very last Chapter and HOPE that you can learn a bit from my research, too!!!

This proverb was written by Lemuel.
Just like Mr. Agur, there's not a lot to be learned about him.  His name means "devoted to God".  In my Bible commentary it states that he was "an unknown king who records the utterance which his mother taught him."

I did a bit of research on the number "thirty-one".  It means "offspring" in my "Biblical Mathematics" book.  There are thirty-one virtues of a model woman listed in Proverbs 31:10-31.  In verses 28 and 29, it states that "her offspring will arise up and call her blessed".

I absolutely love Proverbs 31....maybe I shouldn't because I will NEVER live up to any of the "standards" set to be a Proverbs 31 woman and wife....but it's such a beautiful testimony that no one can truly find a virtuous and capable woman without God's help.  That goes for a virtuous man, too!!!

The part in verse 22 that says she will wear "purple" really spoke to my heart....wonder why, Ms. Becky?!?!?

And verse 25 means so much to me because of the evil spirit of fear that sometimes takes over me....
"she laughs without fear of the future".

Proverbs begins and ends with "fear of the Lord"!!!
(a totally different type of "fear")

Proverbs 31:30
Charm is deceptive and beauty does not last;
but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.

Proverbs 31 will forever be etched into my heart because the part about a virtuous woman was read by Pastor Ronnie White at my Mamaw's graveside service a little over a year ago.  As he read all the qualifications, I could just picture my Mamaw rising up early and cooking and cleaning and sewing....and loving on all of us who called her "blessed"!!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to each of you who joined in.
(especially to you, Ms. Mary at Visits with Mary.....
....and Ms. Becky at Rise Above Your Limits)

If you get a chance, I would love for you to leave me a comment and let us know what this study has meant to you.

In HIS Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!

  3. Yea for purple! Did I tell you that CL and I are decorating our new bathroom in purple? Lilacs, deep purple towels, etc! You'd love it!

Aside from all the things I learned in Proverbs, the one most important truth came from you and Mary...I learned that the world is full of righteous women, desiring to raise a righteous posterity. Thank you Deb and Mary.

  4. I taught the Proverbs 31 woman a couple of summers ago and my goal actually was to have young women in the class as I felt this was a much needed lesson for our younger women today. However I winded up with some OLDER ladies as well and guess what...you are never too old to learn from God!!!! Have a great weekend sister. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
