Mentor

Definition of mentor (Merriam-Webster online)
A trusted counselor or guide.

I've shared before about The Lord's Table...the on-line Bible study that deals with weight loss. In this course, you are assigned a mentor who reads over your answers and responds with comments and suggestions and advice. I have another mentor...a dear precious lady who is a few years older than me, and with lots more Bible knowledge than I will ever have. I've heard her say that she has left notes in her Bibles to her grandchildren. I would love to just look thru her Bible and read her notes...not the ones to her family...but, the notes that she has made on scripture verses and her own references and thoughts. The reason I have this mentor is I received a daily devotional that talked about finding yourself a mentor and it really spoke to me. It talked about how they should be someone older who had experienced more than you and who could give advice, and who had a knowledge of the Bible. On the way home from church one night, this lady came to mind. I have spent some time with her on the phone and in her home and she totally amazes me. I could sit and listen to her talk seems like forever because she is so full of knowledge. I've seen her get filled with joy as the Holy Spirit came to guide her in what she was saying and filling her heart and seen the tears come. Again, she amazes me. One thing she explained to me, and even made me feel better about, is that not everything that we do wrong is a sin...sometimes it is just a weight that we have to get rid of. Now...I know I have a lot more physical weight to shed...but I also have some emotional weights to get rid of, too. I've said before that I have had to end some relationships with other people because as hard as I might try to remain their friend and be a help to them...the relationship, for whatever reason, had a negative impact on me....and was a hindrance to my walk with God....and I had to withdraw myself from them. I didn't do this in a hateful manner. I truly tried to do it with love, but it still hurt me. I have a real problem with thinking that I have offended somebody. But...if you have something weighing you down...and you know that it isn't doing you any good in your walk with the Lord...then, get rid of it. Get rid of the weight that is coming between you and the Lord and you growing closer to Him. It might hurt at first...but if you listen to that "still small voice", and He leads and guides you, you'll find that with Him you can do absolutely anything!!!

Hebrews 12:1 (KJV)

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.

In His Love...and with mine!!!
