{ Vanity and Pride }

  1. I woke up this morning thinking about something that I "thought" I might be asked to do.  Suddenly, I realized that what I was thinking about was pure vanity and very prideful......
  2. and immediately the words to this old hymn came to mind.

  3. At Calvary

  4. Years I spent in vanity and pride,
    Caring not my Lord was crucified,
    Knowing not it was for me He died
    On Calvary.
    • Refrain:
      Mercy there was great, and grace was free;
      Pardon there was multiplied to me;
      There my burdened soul found liberty
      At Calvary.
  5. By God’s Word at last my sin I learned;
    Then I trembled at the law I’d spurned,
    Till my guilty soul imploring turned
    To Calvary.
  6. Now I’ve giv’n to Jesus everything,
    Now I gladly own Him as my King,
    Now my raptured soul can only sing
    Of Calvary!
  7. Oh, the love that drew salvation’s plan!
    Oh, the grace that brought it down to man!
    Oh, the mighty gulf that God did span
    At Calvary!

How about you?

How does God correct you and bring you back to reality......
or, like me, "down off my high horse"?

  1. Music speaks to me as well. I love preaching because I always learn something from God's Word. But music reminds me a lot of things...things I need to change or re-do. Thanks for the reminder this morning, and 'At Calvary' is one of my favorites. Have a great day.

  2. Often a friend will speak into my life and bring me back to reality. Also a certain scripture or message. God uses just about anything to catch my attention. Have a blessed day.

  6. I am always amazed at how our Lord and Savior makes Himself known to us in so many different ways! It seems He touched you with this song!! Please let us know if you do, indeed, get asked to do what you are lamenting about though! :)

  7. Oh yes, He has removed me from my 'high horse.' often. I don't like getting up on that horse but sometimes my spirit weakens and I stumble. Praise God He's there to lift me up and set me straight...in more ways than one! lol Beautiful old hymn, you know how much I love them! Hope you've had a wonderful day. Blessings and ((hugs))
