Hey, Friends!

HOPE everybody has had a great week.

It's been "hotter than blue blazes" in our neck of the woods and the humidity is almost unbearable. 

Didn't I just complain about the cold a few months ago?

It's been another slow week for fotos for me so I thought I'd just share a craft that I did from something I saw on Pinterest. I only bought 3 rolls of ribbon and rick-rack, everything else I had on hand. Pappy cut a dowel he had down to 18 inches and I hot glued the ribbons across the top and let them hang down. The most difficult part which wasn't hard just time-consuming was gluing the buttons on the flag to make the "stars". I was so glad that I had 50 buttons exactly alike that was in a tin of buttons that was given to me from my mother-in-law's things. Another thing that made my heart happy is I was finally able to use the ribbon with cardinals!  I got it at an after Christmas clearance at Big Lots many years ago. I didn't have a "pattern", just went by the fotos I saw on Pinterest and kinda "winged it" and came up with my own.  Our daughter made one, too, and hers is absolutely nothing like this one. I love that we can both be crafty, but true to our own style!

{ Keeping Busy }

As most of you know, we have four grand-kiddos.  Because of privacy reasons, I'm not allowed to share their pictures on my blog, but suffice it to say they are ADORABLE!!! When the first two boys were born, I spent quite a bit of time making things for them.  They both got white crocheted blankets and hand-made stuffed animals.  They each got a little owlie pillow and several crocheted hats. For a few years, we thought that those two boys would be our only grand kiddos, but God had a different plan.  Our daughter and son-in-law felt the call to adopt and to make a long story short, our kids spent 5 weeks in Uganda finalizing the adoption of our granddaughter.  Not long after they returned home from Africa in January 2013, they again felt God calling them to adopt and our fourth grandson was born in July of that year. 

So.....

with getting two more grandchildren in such a short amount of time, Nannie got behind in equaling out the things I'd made for older boys and I'm just now getting caught up.  I thought I'd share with y'all what I recently made for our girl and "baby" boy.

As with the other three, I made the baby a little owlie pillow.  His was a western theme.

  The backs of each of the owls for all four grands were made from an old flannel shirt that belonged to my Daddy and the feet and beaks from a leather jacket I bought for Pappy when we were dating.

And, here's Katy Kitty that I made for our sweet grand girl.....

I've had this pattern for a couple of years and even had the cat cut out (I don't think the pattern cost that much when I first purchased it)  but just couldn't bring myself to make it because of having to embroider the face, something I'm not good at so it intimidated me.  Did you notice that part of her little skirt is owlie fabric?  I just couldn't resist and she had to have my "signature", right?

Now I'm caught up and ready for more grand kiddos.  Well, a Nannie can dream, can't she?

{ Make-it Monday ]

A few years ago I spotted this sweater on the blog Tea Rose Home and knew I would someday want to create one of my own.

I purchased a sweater on sale at Wal-Mart for around $5 and have had it laying around for quite awhile just waiting on me to get in the right mood, or frame of mind, or to get up enough courage to tackle this gorgeous creation.

I recently got up the nerve to give it a try.   Mine didn't turn out nearly as pretty as this one,  but I'm pleased with it.  I didn't put the lace around the bottom, or back, or the sleeves.  I think that might be more for a younger lady.

{ Wise Old Owl Designs }

I love creating and crafting.

Here are a few things Wise Old Owl has created lately.

My sweet friend and pew sharing buddy at church, Ms. Ruby, has a brand new great- grandson!  

Her grand-daughter loves Woody from Toy Story, 

so baby boy had to have a hat!

A custom order sock monkey hat and leg warmers for our great nephew!

Flowers I made from lace, burlap and ribbon and glued to elastic headbands.....

for our grand-girl!

{ Cabinet Door Crafts }

I love costume jewelry.....

fishhook earrings and pretty necklaces!

 The problem is where to store them where they're easily accessible, 

so I came up with jewelry holders out of cabinet doors.

I painted and distressed a cabinet door and screwed cup hooks into it to hold my necklaces and bracelets.

  This hangs on the wall behind the door so it's not really seen.

Another cabinet door with the center removed and a piece of chicken wire inserted and stapled in place makes the perfect hanger for my MANY earrings.

I hung this one on the side of an old armoire.

{ Trivial Tuesday }

Just a bunch of trivial stuff that makes my heart happy and brings a smile to my face.....

I bought this little smiling sun at the Family Dollar for.....

a dollar.....

and stuck it in my CHRISTmas cactus.

My latest creation for our second grand-b0y who ♥'s bison.

This hydrangea has always bloomed hot pink.
With the heat and lack of rain, it's kinda drying up on the bush but displaying such gorgeous colors on the bottom branches. Only God could create something so awesome.

Truth.....

and is cheaper than therapy.....LOL!

A photo I  took several years ago that still makes me smile when I see it  because it reminds me of a sweet day out with my man walking at Seven Islands.

{ Friday Foto Friends #29 }

I created a new little "button" to share for our Friday Foto Friends.  

Feel free to use either one.

I finished up the project I told y'all about last week, so I thought I'd share it with you today.

This was the most challenging crochet project I've every done and I can't see me undertaking another one, so it's truly one-of-a-kind and is now in the hands of our precious daughter.  It was a belated Mother's Day gift for her.....

and she loved it!

Plus, I only had one injury.....

burnt a blister on my finger hot gluing all the pieces together.

OUCH!!!

{ Thrifty Thursday }

I love taking something old and making it "new" again by turning it into something completely different.  I've made little stuffed owlies for our grand-kiddos (well, I don't have Silas one yet) and for the back I used an old flannel shirt that belonged to my sweet Daddy.  That way they'll each have a little something that belonged to their great grandfather, whom they never got to meet....:(

 The feet and beak were from an old leather jacket that belonged to Pappy back in the day!!! ;-)

And, I made a purse out of that same old leather 

jacket of Pappy's and another I found on a sale rack at Goodwill.

I took a pair of $1 yard sale shoes and painted little owlies on them. As you can see, painting/art isn't one of my talents because that little "Nannie owl" looks a bit deformed!! ;-)

  I recently came across a site that gave some really cute ideas for old sweaters......

Doorstops.....or just cute stuffed animals.

Boot slippers out of the sweater sleeves and the bottoms of old flip-flops....wow!

Pillows.....

Purses.....

And, TWENTY-FIVE ways to recycle old jeans......
