{ Tuesday Tidbits }

A few things going on in my neck of the woods.....

Yesterday was an awesome day!
Wanna know why?
I worked outside!
I'd rather be outside working than indoors any old day. The weather was warm - a little too windy - but there were lots of leaves that needed to be mulched and blown and I took advantage of the warmer day and we got a lot accomplished!

The porch cover is coming along.
I haven't taken any fotos, but I will soon.

********************************************************
I came across this little owlie in a box of decorations that I hadn't opened in several years. I've had this owl since I was very young before we were even married. One of his little ear tufts is missing, and I'm pretty sure Jess tore/bit it off when she was little. He's faded and kinda nappy, but he's loved and found a place to perch on our tree.

********************************************************

We got to see all 4 of our grand kiddos perform in The Christmas Carol this past Saturday night. Y'all, I can't even describe the joy and pride for these precious little souls.
Be still my ♥

********************************************************

Not a very clear foto, but look who's started sleeping in one of the chairs under the carport.....

********************************************************

I'm pretty much finished decorating for Christmas, except for the lights we bought on sale last year that I wanted to put around our porch - we'll see if that happens since I'm old and tired.....

Today is the 24th anniversary of going to heaven of one of the most important and loved people in my life.....
my Daddy.

And, that's that about that as my Mammie used to say!

{ Friday Foto Friends #126 ]

Today is my Daddy's 90th birthday and he's celebrating with Jesus!  And, how appropriate that his 90th birthday would fall on Friday the 13th since he was also born on a Friday. I was totally a Daddy's girl and although he's been gone for going on twenty-four years, I still miss him so very much. I told our oldest grandboys just yesterday that he would have adored them and they would have loved him so much.  He loved to hunt and fish and was totally an outdoorsman until he got sick with COPD and was hooked up to oxygen for the last 5 years of his life.  I have the blessed assurance that I'll get to see him again someday and he'll be the first one I want to hug when I get to heaven.....

well, after Jesus, of course!

{ Twenty-One Years ]

Twenty-one years.
That's how long my Daddy's been in heaven.
It was a Sunday morning.
I was teaching a Sunday School class and somebody came and got me to say my Aunt wanted to talk to me.
I went outside the church to see her.
I don't remember what she said.
I do remember praying that he wouldn't be gone before I got there.
Want to know something really strange?
Some people wouldn't even believe it.
But, I know it was God preparing me.
I had visioned this happening.....
me in SS and somebody coming to tell me my Daddy was gone.
The ambulance was on its way.
I was over him telling him how much I loved him and glanced away for just a second.
When I looked back, he had somehow placed his finger by his mouth and his tongue was moving, but he couldn't speak.
I know in my heart he was trying to tell  me how much he loved me, too.
I was a Daddy's girl.
I'm still a Daddy's girl.
It still hurts that he's no longer here.
But, I'll get to see him again some day.
I know that's something I can count on,
just like I  could ALWAYS count on my Daddy's love.

Until I see him again,
I'll keep on......

Remembering my Daddy.....

When I was young, we had a console stereo player and my Daddy loved playing gospel albums. The Blackwood Brothers Quartet was one of them and this song was his favorite.  I always think of my precious Daddy when I hear it.

Friday Fotos.....

I don't do quite as much decorating as I used to.
I actually am planning to go through all my seasonal decorations next summer and donate a lot of them.
(because they're stored in our cold basement)

Pappy bought this little nativity set at a yard sale just for our grand kiddos!
I saw them rearranging it when they were here last night!

This is on top of an old dresser that sits inside our front door.
It was actually my Mom and Dad's first bedroom suite,
and I refinished it many years ago.
The "hurricanes" were made from vases and candle holders purchased at the Dollar Tree and glued together with E6000 glue.
My sis-in-law gave me the rusty "peace".
And, that ship in the background.....
my precious brother made that just for me when he was just a teenager!

This nativity is one of my very favorite CHRISTmas decorations.
Pappy and I bought it the first CHRISTmas after we were married.....
thirty-eight years ago.
It's "Home Interior".
See that stable?
My Daddy and Pappy made that out of paneling that looks like barn wood.
I hot glued Spanish moss to the top.
It just means so much to me knowing my Daddy had his hands on it,
since this will be his 20th year actually celebrating CHRISTmas in heaven.

So, that's that about that.....
a little saying my Mammie used to quote.

HOPE y'all have a Fantastic Friday!

Breathing in Grace,

Friday Fotos.....

It's beginning to look a lot like CHRISTmas!

I ♥ this time of year.....
except, it REALLY makes me miss my Daddy and my Mamaw.
Yesterday, December 4th, was the 20th anniversary of my Daddy's death.
He loved getting gifts.....
and family get-togethers.....
and chocolate.....
well, actually any kind of "sweet".
I totally got my sweet tooth from him!

And my Mamaw.....
well, that woman just simply LOVED.
She loved her family.....
loved to cook.....
loved birds.....
(both my Daddy and Mamaw loved the birdies.....
and they are different sides of my family.....
so it's no wonder I have the same affection, right?)

So.....
it being CHRISTmas-time.....
and speaking of birds......
I want to share our tree and a new wreath I conjured up for this year.
 If you know me well.....
then, you won't be at all surprised at my "woodsy" tree.
It's all burlap and owlies and snowflakes and rusty jingle bells!
Pay close attention to the tree "skirt" in the pictures below.
It's actually a very old bed sheet that my Mamaw made out of grain sacks.
How fitting that it would cradle our tree this year!

HOPE y'all have an awesome weekend!

Happy 85th Birthday.....

....to my Daddy!!!

April 13, 1928 - December 4, 1994

Daddy only went through part of the 9th grade in school,
but he was the smartest man I've ever known.
He could do math problems in his head and come up with the right answer every single time.
There wasn't anything he couldn't fix around the house whether it was
electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical.
He was simply amazing!!!
He was kind and gentle....loving and caring.
These verses of scripture so remind me of him.

I Corinthians 13:4-8
Love is patient and kind.
Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude.
It does not demand its own way.
It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.
It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.
Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful,
and endures through every circumstance.

I love you, Daddy, and still miss you so much!!!

Treasures!!!

My Mamaw passed away in May of 2011, the day before Mother's Day.  Not all of her things have been divided yet, but Mom did give me these two treasures.  The first one was going to be thrown away until I asked if I could have it.  It was my Papaw's tool box and is very old.  It still had a couple of his tools in it, too.  I love the old chippy green color.  The second pic is more accurate in color.

Mom gave me this little bowl.  It's a Fire King tulip bowl.  I looked it up on E-bay and it's known as a grease bowl.  I don't think I'll be using it for that, though!!!
I'll try to post more once the GRANDkids get to go thru and choose some treasures.
I do have my eye on a couple of pretty Pyrex bowls....one is pink and the other green!!!  They interest me because Mom told me that my Daddy gave them to Mamaw....which makes them even more special!!!

It's so sad knowing my Mamaw is no longer with us 'cause she was an amazing woman.
But, I'm so grateful to bring a few of her things into our home!!!

Blessings,
Deb

Happy 84th birthday to my precious Daddy,
who is celebrating in heaven.  He was born on Friday the 13th.....and even though I don't believe in "luck"....I used to tell him I was his "bad luck"!!!  I don't think he felt that way, though.  I still miss him so much....just today I thought about him as I drove by myself on a back road and so wished I could talk to him....'cause he was a great listener!!!

In memory.....

.....of my precious Daddy!!!
April 13, 1928 - December 4, 1994

"I'll Fly Away" was one of his favorite old hymns!!

(don't forget to turn off my PlayList above before listening)

I love you Daddy....and so wish you could have known your GRANDson....and great GRANDsons.  I know you would be so happy to know that we're getting even more GRANDbabies to love and spoil rotten....and you would be so very proud of the amazing woman Jess has grown into!!!  Celebrate with Jesus, Daddy....'cause I know that you can breathe now and you don't have to worry about Mom's health.  We're taking care of her, Daddy....just like she did you!!!

In Memory.....

......of my precious Daddy!!!

Today is my Dad's birthday.
Of course, he has the extreme privilege of celebrating in heaven....with the angels and most importantly with JESUS!!!
Oh, how I still love my Dad.
I've shared the sign with y'all before that says
"as old as she was, she still missed her Daddy sometimes".
That definitely applies to me!!!
