{ Tuesday Tidbits }

I thought it was about time for a Tuesday Tidbits post, so here goes.....

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

I've seen so many folks already decorating for CHRISTmas. Now for me, I've ALWAYS waited until after THANKSgiving, but I'm kinda getting into the spirit of things myself! I'm not sure Pappy will go for putting up the tree until after the turkey, though!

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Speaking of Christmas trees.....
have you seen the price of trees lately?
I would love to have a tree with frosted needles and berries and pine cones, but a large one at Walmart is close to $200 and a smaller one that I really liked at Hobby Lobby was ON SALE for $100.
Do these people not even know how frugal I am?
So, yes, I'm gonna just stick with the one we've had for umpteen years and carry on!

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

We kept our grandgirl Friday night and Saturday to celebrate her 8th birthday. As we were driving to Kodak to get her an ice cream (and Pappy and Nannie, too), she asked me a burning question.
"Nannie, if you could only choose one food to eat the rest of your life, what would it be?"
See, I told you it was of greatest importance - a  girl after her Nannie's own heart thinking about food. I told her chicken, as long as it was Pappy's grilled chicken - that man can grill, Y'all!!!

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

We took RK to see The Nutcracker Saturday and it was so good. Not at all what I expected, but still very good!  But, why do they have to turn the volume soooo loud in the movie theater?  I'm old, but not deaf!

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Y'all, the wind got me out of bed this morning. The ceiling fan stays on at night, summer and winter, and I rarely can hear the wind blowing outside the window, but this morning it sounded like a freight train and was oh, so scary!  The wind has died down, but our yard is chock full of leaves the wind blew off.  I think I see a job for some grandkids when they spend this coming weekend with us!

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Nothing new to report on the she-shed "remodel", but we are getting a roof built over our small back door stoop - our Christmas gift to each other.

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

You know you cannot outgive the Lord, right?
I've been blessed with so many precious folks who give me yarn because they know about my crocheting passion. I had more yarn than I knew what to do with so I went through it and had a huge bag to take to my favorite thrift store.  We hadn't even got it up there yet when another friend from church gifted me with a box of gorgeous yarns with two skeins of my favorite color.....

PURPLE!!!

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Speaking of crochet, I'm trying to teach our grandgirl.  She's got the chain down pat and we took her home Saturday evening with an arm full of crocheted chain "bracelets", her very own crochet hook and several skeins of yarns she chose from the giveaway bag in her favorite colors.  She even made them for me, her Momma, and Mamaw!

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

So, that's that about that, as my Mammie used to say! Not a great lot to report on the home front!

HOPE everybody has a Terrific Tuesday!

{ Friday Foto Friends #126 ]

Today is my Daddy's 90th birthday and he's celebrating with Jesus!  And, how appropriate that his 90th birthday would fall on Friday the 13th since he was also born on a Friday. I was totally a Daddy's girl and although he's been gone for going on twenty-four years, I still miss him so very much. I told our oldest grandboys just yesterday that he would have adored them and they would have loved him so much.  He loved to hunt and fish and was totally an outdoorsman until he got sick with COPD and was hooked up to oxygen for the last 5 years of his life.  I have the blessed assurance that I'll get to see him again someday and he'll be the first one I want to hug when I get to heaven.....

well, after Jesus, of course!

{ Friday Foto Friends #115 }

Pappy and I took a little weekend trip to Asheville, NC to celebrate my birthday last weekend.  I didn't take many fotos but wanted to share these two with Y'all.  After the snow we had last week, I thought for sure there'd be more snow than what we saw.  Not much snow, but lots of ice hanging on the rocks along the Interstate.

This was the sky leaving our kiddos house the evening of my birthday.....

The sun was trying it's best to shine one cold, gray day last week. (taken out our back door)

This church always has something neat posted on its sign.
I'm calling this one "food for thought"!

We'll be heading to our kiddos house in the morning to watch Super Bowl #3. This is the third year our boys have had their very own Super Bowl playing against one another and we're invited to watch and then have a cookout.

Life is good, Y'all!

HOPE your weekend is full of stuff that makes you happy!

{ Friday Foto Friends #98 }

First of all, I want to apologize for not visiting much this week, but I've been busy trying to get some much needed painting done. Maybe taking a break might be something I need to do more often, although it wasn't intentional. Marking things off a to-do list feels so good!!!

Here are my fotos for today.....

We don't have a good view of sunrises and sunsets at our house, but I managed to catch this one evening.....

The girls at our daughter's house....

Giant cannas and a fading knock-out rose at our daughter's house.....

Dusty miller just fascinates me.....
how can leaves be white?

I just loved the look of coming out of the shadows into the light on this back road we took to our daughter's house.....

This is my accidental shadow pic.  I have no idea what/how/why, it just mysteriously showed up in the gallery on my phone and for some reason I like it!

And, last but absolutely not least, I want to wish our sweet girl a very happy birthday. She's truly one of my greatest blessings!

HOPE everybody has a wonderful weekend!

{ January 21st }

As I've shared with y'all before, I don't sleep well so it wasn't unusual for me to wake up and glance at the clock.  What was an "it's not odd, it's God" thing was that the clock showed 1:21 and I had to smile!  Because.....
today is my birthday!

So, I crawled out of  bed with "old age" on my mind and started doing a bit of research in my Bible about that topic!

And, yes.....
being a chunky monkey with a double chin started early in life!

So, I'm off to celebrate a milestone birthday!

HOPE everybody has a wonderful weekend!

{ Let your light shine }

Remember many years ago when it became popular to have a flag pole with decorative flags flying from it?  Well, it might no longer be popular, but I still  my flags.  A few months ago I came across a great deal at Lowe's and bought three flags for less than one would normally cost.

This is the one flying from our front porch right now.....

Notice all the ways it gives we can let our light shine.....

Attitude, Smile, Celebrate, Happy, Kind, Courtesy, Gratitude, Compliment, LOVE, Sweet, Rejoice.....
to name a few!

Matthew 5:16
In the same way,
let your good deeds shine out for all to see,
so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

In some way, let's all go shine our light in this dark world, especially on a Monday.....
don't let Satan get the best of us!

HOPE you have an awesomely blessed day, Friends!

(p.s....happy, happy tenth birthday to the sweet, precious boy who first called me Nannie.....
love you with all my heart, Sam.....
I Samuel 1:27)

Wednesday's Word - SIXTY.....

Can you guess what milestone birthday I'm celebrating today?!?!

As I look back on the past 60 years,
there are just so many things that stand out to me.
God blessed me with such a godly husband and then our daughter,
and "son", and I definitely was smiled upon when God saw fit to give us FOUR Grand's!

But, the biggest thing that humbles me is God's protection on me my entire life.
I knew from just a little girl that there was Someone holding onto me.
At the time, I didn't know Who that was.....
but now I understand it completely!
My childhood/teenage years/young adulthood was quite difficult.
If God directs, I might share that with y'all someday.

But today.....
I'm going to celebrate this milestone birthday with my precious husband.
He has once again taken time off work to spend with me.

I'm certainly one blessed woman!

Ain't God good?
Oh, yes He is!!!

Breathing in Grace,

Friday Foto.....

Meet Samuel David.....
but you can call him Sam.

Today is his 8th birthday.

He's funny and quirky and silly,
but can be very serious and mature and asks more questions than you could ever possibly be able to answer.  He's an awesome big brother and he's my helper when I have all four of the kids.  He does his chores at home and plays hard and reads way beyond his grade level and still isn't too big to give his Pappy and Nannie hugs and kisses and even sit on her lap.....
but he has to be the one who thought of it!
(I think that comes from being a male....;-)

One of my favorite things about this precious boy is how much he loves Jesus.
We always pray before we eat and the kids take turns saying grace.
In the past little while,
Sam's prayers have become more "real".....
know what I mean?
He even prays that everything he does be done for God's glory!

Oh, be still my heart!

Here's why his Momma chose to name him Samuel.....

Thank you Lord, for this precious boy.....
who totally stole his Pappy and Nannie's hearts even before he entered the world!!!

Breathing in Grace,

Deb
